My laptop just died on me. What should I go for now Mac or PC?

My budget is 2000$

I'm not too techy or your friendly neighborhood geek ! And i'm not a gamer but I like high quality graphics.

I'm undecided between the following models

MacBookPro
Dell XPS 1530 ( Red)
Qosmio x300

My main concern if I go with mac is: AM I going to be able to connect my laptops hard drives with an external enclosure and have acces to my files on my mac ie, MP3s.

I know there's some emulators to run windows on a mac, but is this shit stable and reliable.

I guess it's probably like a VMware type of thing.

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Macbook air, Vmware fusion, and yes to all the rest :D

And I guess the webdesign application are all available on torrents also ??

thepiratebay has a ton of mac torrents as do other places :D

As long as your not the one who uploaded those torrents ;)

I'm just kidding here !

Thanks for your suggestions,

I'm looking at the apple store right now and trying to convince myself,

hows the learning curve when swithching from pc to mac, I've been on a pc for over 15 years now,

re: windows. I am running parallels on my Mac at work and it runs windows better than a PC.

And is it very complicated to install a 2nd OS on a mac ?? If I already have windows installed on a external hard drive, do I have to reinstall or just connect my external hardrive to the mac and point the vmware to it ??

For real you guys all say Mac aren't you limited to more then half the thing you would otherwise be able to do with a PC

I think it is mac for you, though there will be a period of familiarising with the new OS and where everything is.
If you don't like the 13" screen go for a larger screened BookPro or consider an external display to work with at your desk.
I'd try and get one in great almost new condition that someone is having to sell due to cash issues. Try amazon mktplace etc.

I have two vista laptops and going to buy a new laptop here soon. It will definitely be a Macbook or MacBook pro.

No linux users here, eh?

And yes, vista sucks IMO. If you have to use Windows, use XP.

How do you sleep at night vista is so terrible, if vista was our only option for a operating system I would move into the middle of the woods, without power

Definitely go for the Mac. The new OS Mac OS 10.5 comes with Bootcamp which will
run Windows XP and Windows Vista at native speed on your Mac.

The learning curve is easy but be warned once you go Mac you won't be going back :))
Try to get the largest screen you can afford and as mentioned above, work with an external display when you can.

I have had nothing but crap from vista....

I have to say I am a little Mac-o-Phobic...
Maybe I prefer to run Win XP? A Lil old school I guess?

Well Mac or PC it's up to you.. but i would rule out Vista ASAP.

I own a few different laptops including a macbook and would definitely say out of all of them I highly prefer my Lenovo thinkpad, and Sony Vaio over all the rest. I originally bought the macbook for music production, but also dual booted windows and ubuntu linux on it as well which was great. My only gripe with that laptop was the fact that I had to replace the hard drive 3 times in a single year! Something to do with the sleep feature on mac's which causes the head to crash if the notebook is moved while shutting down. I don't think I'd buy another one until they're all solid state now :D
