My keyword SERP positions seem to change a lot.

My main keywords are pretty stagnant around 8-12 and don't change often.
Then I have some secondaries that jump around from 5-25 every few days.
And lastly I have a couple of keywords that jump from the 50s to 150s then back to 50s every day.
I also have some that aren't on the top 200, or just made it on the list.

I'm not sure what needs to be done to keep them from changing so often. Also, what can I do to start raising their SERP rankings to the 1-10 positions?

    Retsam5,

There could be a lot of reasons for the change. If your site is new, it can take search engines a while to determine the validity of your site and where exactly is should fall compared to other sites. This process can cause ranking results for your website to appear volatile.

If your site is established, it could be that there are changes in your backlink profile without your knowledge, competitors could be making major changes that are improving their own rankings, and even the tools that you are using could be giving you inaccurate information. Are you using tools or are you just using the search engine to determine where your pages are ranking? If you are using a search engine this is very unreliable.

    Here are some more ideas,

OP, It always happen on new websites. Don't stop your link building process, also use lsi and naked url's as anchors along with main and secondaries.

Google dances are the norm when trying to rank a site. Just keep link building. Don't stop or make anything look out of the blue, and most importantly, be patient.

Just keep using the main-keyword you want to rank for as anchor text when backlinking.
BUT never forget to use variations like synonyms and stuff like that. Don't spam your keyword in anchor backlinks.

Once i reached page 1 for the main keyword i usually start to using the secondary's mixed with my main. This is a good way to variate your keyword in your backlink. Keep focused on the main keyword and others will usually follow.

It could merely be Google dancing in my opinion. How old is your website? If it is new then usually Google usually fluctuates results several times before you see a stability in your rankings.

It is definitely bound to happen for new sites, continue building high quality backlinks and you will see results, remember its about process not results =)
