    Hello!
This is the start of my inspiring journey of success!!

    or

A tutorial on how to hilariously fail at IM!!

It will be one or the other (hopefully the former).

My goal: Ear enough to pursue my erotica ebook writing journey without the need for getting up and working retail 5 days a week!!!

To that end I purchased the rather catchy domain name: singleguylife

    I purchased hosting on Poweruphosting.

Now.....I have no idea....everything looks so.....complicated...what the hell is wordpress? What is cpanel? what is MySQL and why do I need it? email configurations? What the hell is that!?!? A database? Why do I have a database!??!?!

I guess it will be a long frightful journey, but the people at Poweruphosting so far have been great so heres to that!

My ultimate goal is to be financially independent from my retail job so I can concentrate on my ebook writing and maintenance of my domain. I realize this is a long process and I have mapped out a few goals to get there:

    Start up goals

Goal 1: learn how to use all the tools provided in the cpanel and what their proper functions are
Goal 2: learn how to implement these tools to actually build a foundation for the site
Goal 3: research and create relevant authority content to be implemented to my site
Goal 4: learn how to connect my content to my website in an efficient and visually pleasing structure
Goal 5: learn the ins and outs of keywords, SEO, adsense, Google Analytics
Goal 6: implement goal 5's processes into the site
Goal 6: find and implement relevant and profitable affiliate programs to enhance monetization of my site
Goal 7: combine all previous 6 goals into a final website, launched and ready to earn

    Monetize goals
Goal 1: First revenue dollar from any income source implemented on the site
Goal 2: first 10 dollar week
Goal 3: first 25 dollar month
Goal 4: first 100 dollar month
Goal 5: first 250 dollar month
Goal 6: first 500+ dollar month
Goal 7: first 4 figure month

    Life goals:
Goal 1: buy my mom a new car (she likes the Honda civic)
Goal 2: frame off restoration of my auto (estimated cost: 12 grand)
Goal 3: help the clinic I sponsor in Honduras
Goal 4: Buy an old Christ Craft Constellation Cabin cruiser
Goal 5: Park that boat in the Keys
Goal 6: live on the boat writing erotica and maintaining singleguylife

Maybe this all sounds crazy, but I have had a few glasses of whisky and LSU just got beat by Mississippi State so am rambling.

Anyway i will update my buffoonery here as it progresses. Thank you for reading.

It is not easy to start from zero but with this journey am sure at least you'll be motivated.
Good luck with your many goals!

I think the most difficult goals to achieve are these: Life goals

If your 2nd goal is $10 a week then shouldn't your 3rd be $50 a month and not $25, as your third goal is below your second goal.

    Update:
so singleguylife is all set at Poweruphosting. Installed Wordpress and a few plugins. I have NO idea what I am doing. I was fooling around with Wordpress just to get a feel for the layout and somehow I ended up in a dungeon raid on World of Warcraft. After getting my raid group killed due to my lack of healing skills I found myself back on Wordpress where I have been fooling around with the layouts.

So I decided that singleguylife would be a sort of online monthly magazine-authority site sort of thing. this gives me time to develop the content to be as well crafted as possible. I also believe that the more exclusive or selective something is, the more naturally desirable it will be or appear to be.

I decided to go with a static front page, which will then lead to the blog. I am thinking of having a Flash intro on the static page, I will have to research how to have one made.

I think maybe the content will be something like one main highly researched and long article as the major content, and maybe 8-12 smaller articles as the "filler". I don't know word sort of word count yet, but the main article will be different every month.

I will maintain a constant color theme as I believe uniformity and familiarity make for a more successful site.

Anyway thats all for now, I will work on minkland tomorrow.

So today I am working on minkland. Changed all the relevant affiliate programs to my own. I dont like how the website looks, it looks sorta tawdry. BUT I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change anything. I dont see any program on the cp panel that lets me just drag and drop and change stuff on the page like Wix does (which I am used to). Theres a bunch of stuff under "software services" that I assumed would do just that, but it doesn't. (Ruby gems, ruby on rails, fantastico deluxe, some php stuff, perl modules).

I assume the html code for the whole site is somewhere in the file library, somewhere under public_html. My theory is that I can get a third party html code editor and just import and export the html code to the library? That sounds reasonable BUT I am not sure.

    This requires some research.

To start you will need only: domain, host, wordpress install, few plugins and content.
Wordpress is a plataform to manage the content of your website. Is easy mmanage the site with wordpress.
Install and read any begginers tutorial.
After this look for a free premium theme, will make your life easy with the design.
After your site look cool, search here in BHW for wordpress plugins and choose some usefull plugins to install in your site. (Tip: find a cool wordpress website and look all the features in the site like share buttons, contact forms, menus, etc.)
Focus in very good content with good keywords. (use the google keyword planner to find nice keywords)
Read about SEO and try to introduce in your site.
Make social media pages to drive traffic to your website. (facebook, google+, twitter,...)
Read and understand about backlinks and the importance. Get quality backlinks to get your site good ranked in search engines.

This is noob(me) advices for you. Fail is normal. I have LOTS of fails in IM. But I'm still trying, Just looking for the best method for me.

And keep trying! Dont give up OP!

Righto so I am getting a handle on the whole wordpress thing. I am having a logo made and I am studying Matthew Woodward's tutorial on building a blog in 12 months. I made a test post on singleguylife using the Wordpress SEO plugin to gause how effective the article is. Don't really understand the whole subheading thing or how to put alt tags in the image I used. BUT my test post scored a green GOOD on the SEO analysis. Aiming for perfect!

Cannot understand where in wordpress I insert my affiliate links, perhaps there is a plug in for that? I guess being so used to building a site on Wix I got sort of spoiled with their interface, which was rather easy to use. I also need to figure out how to put more than one article on a page without it being clutters. I have this idea of singleguylife being a webazine. One main authority article surrounded by 8-10 supporting articles on various subjects. I have to play around and sort it all out.

Good luck OP. WOW starting from scratch is hard.

In wordpress (WP), your admin panel ie: yourdomain.com/wp-admin you have all the options you need. To add more content use the "posts" and not "pages", to add links simply highlight the text and click the link icon, similar to the ones here on BHW.

Do not worry about anything hosted side for now, just get to grips with WP.

Very frustrating day. I am trying to configure the Wordpress theme twenty fourteen and I CANNOT for the life of me get it right. According to the theme, I can set up the posts I make as a grid, so when you click on the first few sentences of the post it takes you to a separate page where that post is in full. That way I can show relevant ads related to the content of that article.

BUT I cannot get the damn posts to grid at all, all they do is slide like some amateurish geocities site. This is why I LOVED Wix, you can drag and drop and resize everything with your mouse....GAHHH!!!! And I am having a hard time finding a clear guide on how to set the posts to grid like it shows in the 2014's theme live demo.....

on the plus side I did figure out how to do an RSS fed so that is good. And Minkland had 50 visitors today but no one clicked a darn thing.

I did make $350 in commission at my job though so it wasnt a totally wasted day.

Oh and for some messed up reason I cannot log into my Yahoo Fantasy Football league with my Google ID today like I have been for over a year...I can log in with my iPod but just not from my PC....GAAAHHH!!!!!!

Trying out the MH magazine theme on singleguylife. I like it, and am considering investing the $49 for the premium full featured theme.
Minkland is gettng a lot of visitors but NO hits on anything, but whatever, that is more of a testbed anyway.

Got my uber cool logo from SH Logo Design! so far so good. I work a lot the next few days so I dont know how much fooling around with the theme I will get to, but slow and steady wins the race! Learning more about trending keywords so I can write current relevant content. I am enjoying the education so far!

    have a funky day!

    SO FRUSTRATING!!

I have never understood why instructions for certain things cannot be written clearer. This is one of the problems I have always had with certain tech communities. When a newbie asks a question that, for him/her, is a genuine concern, others who view the problem as trivial or easy will either reply "read the manual" or "learn to (insert genre here)".

I have also noticed this in help manuals or instructions for certain things. For example: I am having a hell of time figuring out how to do the layout on my wordpress theme for singleguylife. I want to arrange the articles in the way that is pretty much set up in the demo for the MH magazne theme I am using. BUT nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE in any of the documentation does it tell you exactly HOW to do this. OH I am learning about widgets and RSS feeds and whatnot, which is great, but a simple task like having ONE article dominate in the Home 1 area while the rest are arranged in a slideshow scroll is not covered anywhere as far as I can see.

BAH!!!! I guess this is all part of the learning curve, but it is easy to see WHY people get frustrated and quit after only a few weeks.
