Hello, I wanted to post this to help keep me on track to my goal and also to learn anything new. My goal is to make a career out of being a remix producer for major artists. How do I plan on doing that? By building a giant fanbase with the downloads to match. My background in music is guitarist 9 years (first three trained), professional engineer for 3 years, manager for 1. Im skeptical about posting too much information on myself but i'm in my early 20s. The past few years have been insane to the point that i was developing bipolar disorder, or already developed dont really know and took a huge blow in my career as an engineer and manager. I found serenity again by taking acapellas of my favorite songs from my favorite producers(dr luke mainly) and building my own beat around it as i hear it in my head. My remixes are more of my vision of the song while remaining in a top 40 format(because thats what i love). I have a plan offline too but that cost more money and its what I am mainly saving for. Its the best way to build a fanbase while making money in music. Im going to take the djs and promoters i manager and do it with them first before I do it for myself first though.

I started uploading remixes and beats to soundcloud in april and up until last month i was at 110 followers, uploaded a new remix and now at 360. My main source of traffic the group sharing in soundcloud and facebook messaging. I send a PM on facebook to people i know from high school, music, or just life meaning people i know in person and they probably already aware of what i do. In the message with the link ill always ask a different question. If its an engineer/producer friend "*Link* Is this kick too loud? or What do you think about the reverb on the vocal delays in the bridge?" if its a regular friend "*link* Would you shake your a$$ to this?(female) or "*link* Show your gf/sister this and tell me what she thinks. (male, not my target demographic)". The questions are to get the reader to be interested and have a reason to listen to it. This has been working for me so far but i feel if i do it too much itll just become spam.

Since my latest remix my total view count doubled from 1000 to 2000. Even though the new remix only got 570 views total right now everything else gained 70-100 new views and downloads too. I made a twitter, youtube, tumblr, last.fm, reverbnation, and myspace. Im already on linkedin(scored a few good engineering gigs through there). Im kind of "going with the flow" right now with the whole internet marketing thing. Im not trying to make money from music on the internet right now because i am trying to build my overall fanbase as well as my managees to also help promote our events.

The ways I am currently going to try to help myself online is make more music, upload them and promote them. I am reading new ways to promote. I am working on 4 new remixes with no set date for upload yet. The plan for them is 2-3 oldies(2+ years old) and 1-2 new(very recent releases). I am constantly on the acapella hunt too. I never know when a new hit song is going to drop and a studio acapella also gets leaked online. While waiting for that i am remixing old ones. When that is achieved ill start uploading them days or a week apart to give me time in between to promote each one. According to my sources this month 180 of my views were from one group i posted in on soundcloud so i can see where that helps.

Sorry i can be hard to follow and sometimes even understand. I dont want to say too much but i dont want to hold back vital information to my cause.

I will try to keep this thread updated as much as possibly but the stats right now are
    Followers- 364
    Uploads-7
    Total downloads-65
Total Favorites(other users to my tracks)- 94
    Total comments- 18 =(
    Total Views- 1956

Whats cool is i have 7 sounds and most of my views are from the same 20-25 people one guy listened to my music 23 times which means he must of really liked it. For me ive noticed my best music happens when i start something at the end of a depressed mood and going into an elevated mood. If i make something that takes me out of a depressed mood then its worth continuing to me and will probably be uploaded online when finished.

Try to get your remixes uploaded EDM music channels such as Music4Montage, 17tumba, etc. You'll get tons of new fans of that!
Let everyone use your remixes in their videos, this will also get you fans as more people with listen to your music.
All this is for YouTube, don't got any experiance in SoundCloud.
    Good luck!

well because of what i posted online(my remixes) i am now engineering 3 times a week 40 hours a week for a local hip hop/pop group. First big paid $, and on the same day i was later contacted by a management company of a top tier artist to send instrumentals for placements and to do remixes for them =)

The only reason people are hitting me up for paid work now is because i engineered heavily and they discovered on facebook or twitter when i promote myself that i have a sound they want. Ive already known these people for years they are not strangers. Kind of what i wanted >)

As a DJ let me tell you.....there is a TON of money in remixing....some of the most popular videos that arent viral are song remixes. Best of luck to you!

Sounds like a fun journey! Hope it goes well.

I have a few friends in the music industry and the results seems to vary a ton for each of them.

From DJ's, to singers and producers.
