Alright, so to start this journey off, a bit about me. I have been doing IM full time for the last 5 years or so and have a few different revenue streams set up. I went from MFA sites, to different black hat methods to now have a few reliable income streams.

Now I want to make a huge authoritative site that will have minimal offsite SEO done (social signals + the links from the service I offer on this forum). We had made tons of small sites that were nice little money makers but that was in a different time.. I have recently read Napsters thread and as coincidence had it, I just recently bought an 18 year old news domain which is perfect for a news site. I actually bought it to resell it(got a few offers for it already), but now it looks like I will develop it instead. The domain has no links at the moment and no DA/PA/PR.

So what I will do is expand on the magazine site concept in napsters thread and create a news site that will be able to cover any and all niches that I decide to go after.

I will do the keyword research as explained by Napster but also coupled with what BassTrackerBots explained in his thread. Combined I should get enough keywords with low comp to get me started but in the long run I will be surely aiming for big keywords, but I need to first give the site good link juice and authority to be able to compete with those.

    What I have done
    - bought the Wordpress template (from a big developer that updates it frequently)
    - set up the account on my VPS
    - in the next few days the logo and template will get setup and the categories configured

    GOALS
    - get into Google News
    - make $xx,xxx per month with the site
    - flip the site for $xxx, xxx

How long this will take, I don't know and I don't care. I will be hammering at it until I get there.

I have a question for all of you who will be reading this and have any experience with Google News. I read that the URLs need to have at least 3 digits. So what do you do? Do you add the date to the URL or just random numbers?

Good luck with your journey! Subscribed.

Interested on how you get on with Google News. I've been rejected 4 times now, it's tough. :)

About the unique digits in the URL, add '%post_id%' to your permalinks :)

Thanks for the reply Loadzz! Any other things that I should be careful about while trying to get into google news (I have googled this already and will do more digging on it later) from your own experience?

Why did they reject you 4 times? Did they give you any explanations?

Make sure your content is unique, don't copy it from anywhere. If you find news articles you want to cover, make sure it's reworded, so Google doesn't pick up on anything suspicious.

Grammar plays a big part in content for Google News, and try to avoid words like 'see'.

They give you no explanation at all. You're on your own, it's so annoying. If you get rejected you have to wait (at least) 60 days before reapplying. Even if you request some information, they ignore your email.

If you're lucky you can get someone to review your site who works closely to Google News, here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/news/google-news-publishers

If you have anymore questions, let me know :) I'll be keeping an eye on this thread :)

To enter in Google News you'll need few authors on the site... Not just one, I don't know does it work with fake author accounts

Thanks Loadzz. How did you deal with this requirement: A contact page listing contact information such as your address, phone numbers and or email addresses. Just a contact form won't do. Google wants to make sure you're a legitimate news organization, make sure you site shows you as such.

xlcrash, that shouldn't be a problem as we have multiple writers.

Also to Loadzz or anyone else, do you buy stock photos for your sites or do you just add a link to the source or do you do it some other way?

I created a page with my editors faces on, a little bio and their Twitter accounts. Also a link pointing to their articles.

I normally source (with a credit) and put a disclaimer on my site saying 'All pictures are believed to be in the public domain'. But i have connections with TV broadcasting channels, Getty images for high profile pictures etc.

    Loadzz thanks for your info!

As for the 3 digits in your URL, that is not a requirement any longer according to this post: http://www.branded3.com/blogs/google-news-no-longer-requires-stupid-numbers-in-the-url/

We decided to go with the news sitemap instead of the digits because they just look silly in my opinion :) So the template is installed on the VPS and we have started making mods to it to fit our needs. The logo is also in the works and should be done today or tomorrow.

I have started to make keyword research and already found a few nice keywords. I sent out an order of 10 posts (800-2000 words) to one of my writers. For the news coverage I will be writing some of those myself. Taking big news and rewriting them with my own words.. Since the site will have 9 categories with a few subcategories, we will need a bunch of posts just to populate it to look semi decent..

GOAL until the end of February is to have at least 50 posts up!

Sundey evening update. Since I have a few other things in the pipelines for the last few days and the next week, I didn't had that much time to devote to this project. However, the site is almost fully done and content is already being made. Tomorrow I get all social accounts up and running and hopefully the first pieces of content onto the site so that I can take it out of maintenance mode in the next few days.

Fun times ahead but for now I wish everyone a great Sunday!

Before you submit to G News make sure to have around 200-250 articles published as they like to see you've been busy. Also make sure your articles go back about 3-4 months or longer before submitting. They want to know you're serious too.

What others have said is right on. With my site, it took 3 tries but when I look back, I would've rejected me for news too as the WP theme wasn't very good and I only had one writer. Once I learned about having more writers and including them with bio in a About Us page along with a Contact Us page, it makes life much easier.

With my current site, I started it in October, hit up Google in December and had their go ahead three days later. Most of my articles ranged about 600 -1000 words. G is liking more indepth stuff now on news sites, and they will tag your articles as such when you get on their News.

Good luck and don't rush it since it's a long 60 day wait!

Thanks guys. Yeah, I have no intention of submitting my site to GN for the next 3-4 months at least.. I am just going to work on getting great content and working on getting a nice social presence to also be able to get traffic from there. Don't want to rely on G neither from search traffic nor from G news too much..

So the site is almost done and should be launched this weekend. I already have a few posts and I was thinking of doing a few image posts.. Like 10 most stunning.. Now my questions is regarding the images. If I just give link credit to the author, is that enough? Lets say linking to a Px500.com picture?

    UPDATE

Happy to say that the site is now live. There are 6 posts up already and one of them is a sweet 2k word post that targets some nice keywords that seem to be low comp. Now I just need to keep on adding content. End of February is around the corner and I am still a bit away from my 50 posts goal but I am determined that I will make it!

A couple of things I learned since I started my news site project and it may help you.

    1. Content does not have to be original. It needs to be sorted in a way that it look and feels like a normal news site, where people will enjoy browsing topics. Some of the biggest news sites are actually agregators (copy pasting entire texts, with "source" or "original article appeared on" notice)

    2. To get accepted in Google news all your articles must be news articles. "Top 10 things" that you mentioned is not a news.

    3. Good luck with building a site with no links pointing to it

    4. Fifty articles each month is not a news site, it is a multi-niche site. It should be 50 articles each day, news are happening as we speak.

    Thank you for your input!

    1. Yes, I have been seeing that but I will probably stick to rewriting news to get some original content up and when we are bigger then I will go down this road.

    2. Well I see most of the big news sites also have these type of posts and with some good keyword research these types of posts can bring in good traffic. Worst case scenario I will have a multi-niche site with a few hundred thousand words in the end..

    3. I never said that I won't do any links to it.. I will do my links only meaning high authority editorial posts with my link inside.

    4. 50 articles until February is just the first goal for the first month when I am still learning things.. Very shortly I plan to have 4 different writers (including myself) and that should bring a nice bump in daily/monthly posts..

How many posts do you do on your news site per day? Also, do you buy photos or just link to them as a source?
