My older books are on the short side. 4,000 - 6,000 words probably. These days I am aiming for at least 8,000 - 10,000.

    Thanks!

    Thank you!

    Thanks!

I didn't do an update yesterday. Had a meeting with someone about another business and it turned into too many drinks hence no update.

    Sept 29: $65.10
    Yesterday: $68.87

I'm liking the upward trend on numbers and hope it continues. This week hasn't been as productive as I'd like though which means I'm going to have to have a busy weekend to stay on goal!

    TODAY'S UPDATE

Weird day yesterday, borrowed page reads were really low but sales really high. I'd prefer sales of course but thought it was weird how low pages read was. Today is low for borrows also. Odd.

$78.75 yesterday, creeping closer to $100! It will be nice to be in triple digits again.

Published two bundles today and worked on a story but didn't finish it.

    I have a question OP.

I don't wade into romance/erotica much, but I have been following your thread. I noticed that there are different types of romance/erotica novels. Does that include fantasy or sci-fi romance? Or is it all just lumped together as romance?

It is an interesting journey to be sure and you can't fault yourself for getting down on things. Amazon appears to have given erotic writers quite the haircut. Not sure how it's going to play out as their market share makes them something of the only game in town. I just joined this site and have been reading about the erotic/romance genre. I'm a writer as well and am wholly impressed by your work rate. As I look into the space, I'm a little overwhelmed and am as interested in the marketing piece as the writing. I wish your ascent to $500 to be a safe and speedy path.

There are quite a few different genres under romance, including fantasy and sci-fi. I've never written either of those genres but my understanding is they aren't the most popular. I think fantasy does better than sci-fi romance but neither are big money. The vast majority of romance and erotica readers are women and I think typically that men enjoy fantasy and sci-fi more.

LOL thanks but one thing I am definitely not doing is posting my pen names here!

I bet paranormal romances aren't doing too bad either.

I heard that sci-fi/fantasy is generally a really terrible genre to get into. The market share isn't really that great or something. Idk why. You'd think building other world would fascinate people. Apparently that is not true.

Anyway, thanks for answering my question. :)

Paranormal romance is huge. That and billionaire are probably the two biggest niches. Go on Amazon sometime and search for werebear. I really don't write in either of those genres too much since there is crazy competition, it's easier to make money in a niche that has a following but doesn't have tens of thousands of books.

    TODAY'S UPDATE

    Yesterday did $51.92

Today sucked. I live overseas and had to deal with a visa extension today. What should have taken a hour or two ended up taking all day long! As a result, all I accomplished was publishing a bundle.

    TODAY'S UPDATE

Yesterday I made $44.82. A couple days in a row decline now, my borrows are off their average and I'm not sure why. Not real concerned right now, Amazon is a roller coaster and as long as it rights itself soon it's no big deal.

Today I published two bundles and finished a ghostwriting gig. Sucks that this was the last ghost book for the client. They ordered ten and paid a good rate. Hopefully they will need more soon but right now it gives me more free time.

    Hello everybody, and OP :)

I have an older friend who recently discovered, he can actually truly write. He enrolled in community college only to find out that he was capable of writing, nothing more!

How can I direct my friend to the first steps of monetizing his abilities? Fiverr seems like a long shot...

Great to hear, now quit thinking and start writing! ;)

Can people really make much money on Fiverr? Try a site like Upwork.

    TODAY'S UPDATE

Slow day with sales yesterday, did $46.36.

It seems like every year in October, Amazon decides to fuck with erotica. Today they moved a lot of author's entire catalogs into erotica from romance or whatever. Okay sure, there is a lot of miscategorization that goes on but this move targeted the entire catalog from effected writers. I know people who have also published children's book, cookbooks, etc. and today those books have all been moved into the erotica category.

I wasn't effected (yet, keeping my fingers crossed still) but I'm taking off a day or two from publishing to make sure I don't call any attention to myself. Almost all of my work is listed under romance for the simple fact that it gets more exposure. Being moved to erotica would really effect sales. I feel bad for those hit by Amazon and intend on keeping my head down to avoid their fate. Hopefully it was a one-day cleanup and I have nothing to worry about. The frustrating thing about Amazon is you never know what the hell is going on over there.

I wrote about five thousand words today but no publishing. Same for tomorrow and maybe the weekend depending on what I hear.

Back to publishing today. Amazon reversed their moves on a lot of author's catalogs after complaints. I know some authors who haven't had a reply from Amazon yet but I haven't heard of anymore catalogs getting dumped into erotica. I wasn't effected thankfully.

I was going to take today off also but after hearing they reversed it on some people I decided to publish. I need to get my number over $100 soon or I'm going to fall behind on this journey. Published three bundles today.
