Hey guy, as this is my first post here I would like to thank you all for sharing your experience and techniques here. As you can see I just joined BHW. Before I was already lurking here for a while until I decided to register. Intro: So lets start with a little bit about myself. I am working as a SAP Consultant since around three years now here in Germany. The job is not bad but often its quite stressful because I normally take the first flight on monday mornings to fly to my client and I will be back on thursday evening and I will be working from home on fridays. Working on this project besides this job won't be easy but its also not impossible. During my travel I got time to think about the strategy, articles etc. I started to create my first niche site around two weeks ago. I picked the Forex niche because the comissions are high and I would be happy with just one or two leads. At the moment I am questioning this decision because it seems very hard to get a good rank in this niche however I don't want to give up yet. I will try to build this site up a little bit more by reviewing 5-6 more brokers and then I will just wait and see what happens in the coming 12 month. In the past weeks I went through a couple tutorials here about how to select the right niche, keyword etc. and while browsing on Amazon I found some interesting product in the Home & Kitchen department. Keyword: I won't disclose the name of the product or keyword now. So lets just assume the product is a "Steamer". Steamer is also the Keyword which I want to rank. I did some research using the Keyword Tool of google Adwords and its showing around 18.000 searches per month for "Steamers". If I google this keyword, I will get the following: 1. German amazon affiliate website (my target) 2. amazon.de 3. Another Affiliate 4. Another Affiliate 5. One of the leading manufacturers for this product ... My Competitors Lets have a look at the first ranked website: Their URL is: "steamers"-test.com. There is also a .de Domain with the same URL but they are only number 3 at the moment. Semrush showed me the following for the first ranked page: Traffic: ~6700 per month, no significant seasonality Backlinks: Keyword difficulty: 87 Domain strength (steamers-test.com): 72 Domain strength Amazon: 99.55 Domain strength (steamers-test.de): 60 Majestic showed me the following regarding backlinks: External backlinks: 108 (42 no follow, 66 follow) Referring domains: 27 Many of the referring domains are blogs or blog entries related to steamers or cleaning in general where they made a comments. Another interesting observation: If I click the "To Amazon" or "Buy now on amazon" button on this homepage I won't be forwarded to amazon but to the landing page of the agency which is running this website. Their homepage is currently down but it seems like they got a couple hundred domains which they are selling. Some got content but most seem just to be parked. I am not sure whats wrong there, maybe they got suspended by Amazon. They give a price on their website which is matching the amazon price. They are not using any widget/tool to get the most recent amazon price. I think since spring last year they didnt change much on their site. My plan Build a site, similar to the one of my main competitor, enhance the site with some "real" pictures and videos of the product in action. I consider buying a "steamer" for myself so I could review at least one. However my competitor reviews a couple of models of 2-3 different manufacturers. I would ask the manufacturers to send me a sample product for a review which I would return afterwards. Otherwise I would order 2-3 of them via amazon and send them back after a week to get a refund. As a noob I find it quite difficult to evaluate if it will be hard to get ranked first and if I would have a chance against them. Based on the figures above, what would you say? The reward Lets assume I get ranked first: 6700 visitors per month x 0,7 CTR = 4690 4690 x 0,03 = 140 items sold per month if 3% of the people buy a steamer 140 x 60€ = 8400€ revenue 8400€ x 0,05 = 420€ commission/month (based on 5% for this category in Germany) I think there is potential to make even more per month if the conversion rate would be higher or the people spend more than just 60€. This project is still in an early stage, I would be happy if I could get some thoughts or hints from you, please also excuse my English.
