I'm actually already 32 days into this journey. I am a writer/poet and have a cache of poetry that i've been working on over the last 7 years. I only recently came across BHW (couple months ago) and studied a lot of tactics and methods here and had the idea to monitize what was originally something I did recreationally and therauically already.

I figured instagram was the best medium to begin reaching an audience, and 30 days ago I joined Instgram and began posting. I had considered buying 10k followers or something to start but I dont want to get banned so i've just been adding people with similar hashtags. In the last 30 days I've garnered 1.1k followers organically and average about 65-100 likes and 3-5 comments per post. People love my work and are interested and engaged.

From here my plan is to slow my posting rate on instagram, i've began a gofundme in an attempt to raise $800, for advertising and a website/blog combo.

Whether that succeeds or fails, i'm posting an e-book and a kickstart to try and publish some physical copies as well. These poems have a heavy visual aspect so if everything listed before succeeds i'd like to try and sell some artistic t-shirts, fridge magnets, wall-art, bumper-stickers, the works.

I'd like to be, in the end, making money via eBooks, physical books, website traffic, merchandise. HOPEFULLY at least 900/week. (Dont know how unrealistic that is.) My starting funds are a wealth of original content, and whatever money I can scrape by and save (money is tight with rent & expenses) and whatever I can crowdsource.

Any and all advice is welcome!

I would say 900 a week is manageable. Since you've got 1.1k organically, that means people like your content. You should do what you're doing and grow your followers more. it would probably go 3k after 30 days, 6k in 60 days, 10k in 90 and so on. If people really like your content, they would stay. Then if you have a big account, start promoting your t-shirts, magnets, wall art and such. Good luck with your journey

That's actually a really good idea OP. Way to grow your audience. I hate Instagram but it seems there's an audience for everything over there.

As a fellow writer, I'll be happy to support you. I'll be following this journey.

So it's almost been 2 months and working two jobs sometimes has been overwhelming as well as trying to coordinate all of this. As of today I have 2450 followers with 190 posts and I'm following 7300 people and working on slowly trimming out the spam & garbage accounts from those. My posts are getting an average 150-200 likes with the most on one post being 220+. Most posts get typically 5-9 comments. I've been looking into side projects to help pull in small income to help fund this venture. Goals: Host my domain, design a website or outsource to good designer. Make youtube video about my project. Post media to different outlets & social media sites. Compile e-books based on poems theme. Write an actual book as sort of an 'about me, who I am, where I've come from and where I am determined to go.' Figure out things from there I suppose?

    December 20th.

Okay. So my Instagram has grown organically to about 2600 followers but after paying a bit for Facebook advertisements I grew from 95 page likes to 4900 & growing still. I finally got around to hosting my domain and put up a wordpress site but have yet to monetize anything in any way. I've kind of just been working on growing my audience and building a lot of original content to base my "brand" on if you will. Still testing the waters & figuring out where to go from here. Currently just working on my website, learning about wordpress and SEO, and posting quality content blog posts. Things are going well audience-growth wise. I have a lot of engagement. Let's say 57,000 people see my post, about 500-650 people will like it and 40-60 people will share it. So I THINK that is good engagement but I have no idea I'm just a babe in the woods right now.

It seems a great journey, I just have 1 question for you.

How much do you spend on Facebook to grow your page a 4900? What is your target?

And if you need help with your webpage, just let me know.

    Good luck!

If you're in Cali, I'd be up to help shoot photos for you and get content for your site. (Free, I just want to shoot more artists while I'm in Los Angeles)

SO FAAR I've paid about $200. And my FB likes is actually at 6.2k now. One of the posts I boosted has 28,000 likes and 2,100 shares. My friends are ragging on me for spending so much on FB ads especially when I haven't monetized in any way but I think it's important to build a fan base

On a side note for my journey. A couple blog-posts/articles on my website and almost all the pages are done. progress.
I'm going to break 10k followers tomorrow easy.
