Hello everyone, I'm openagain, 24 from Hong Kong and currently working full time. I usually have a lot of free time after work and want to start making some income on the side and hopefully turn this into a full time job if i'm banking it.

I've been on BHW long enough, doing NOTHING. I have literally not done anything, merely looking at threads and salivating at how other people make a few hundred bucks a month. I've made a few adsense sites here and there making maybe $1-2 a day but usually lost motivation after a few days. The reason I want to start this journey is to keep motivation and track my progress so that hopefully by mid 2015 I can have a decent income of ~$1000/month. That's my target.
I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I've been reading pretty much everything on BHW for a few years so I do know basic SEO, backlinking etc.

My biggest downfall is working on too many projects at once, distracting me from focusing on one project and losing motivation really quickly. The other thing is I HATE writing articles but at the same time I don't want to put an investment into writers when I could do it myself.. Kind of what has been stopping me from doing anything for so long.
As such, I want this journey to help me stay on track and have a timeline in mind. (I work much better when I set goals)
My first target is to update this thread weekly and focus on a SINGLE project.

Project 1 will likely, no not likely... WILL BE a niche website monetized through Adsense.
I hope to have the basics up and running by the end of the week including on-site SEO.
Target: 17/November/2014 to have first niche site up and running with ~5 articles.

Ultimately I want to sell my websites once they reach a stable income but for now, my main focus will be:
    Keyword Research.

The tools that I will be using are simple.
Wordpress Addons and maybe some backlinking tools that I found in Member's downloads section which someone paid a good amount of money for (god knows if those even work).

I hope some of you lacking motivation to start can join in together and hopefully make some moolah together.

As the first step of Keyword Research I will mostly be using keyword planner in addition to some smart googling to find out if the competition is significant. From what I understand, keyword research is the most important part in getting started. For my first website I also want to do it on something I enjoy so writing the damn articles won't be so boring.

Anyways, I will update this thread in due time on my progress.

Seriously, I know exactly how you feel about being here for so long without ever taking proper action or sticking with something until it works. I've started so many things and they all never worked out because I quit and moved on before they even had a chance to make any sort of income, mostly because I just lost all motivation.

At this point it's like, probably for many lurkers on here, "I've been reading all this time, a few hours per day for years basically, so I pretty much know exactly what to do to make a full-time income and more. I just need to do something and focus!" Well maybe not exactly what to do, but I'd say we have a good idea to say the least, us infoholics. If we started and stuck with our projects over the past 3-5 years, we'd probably be banking way over $100/day by now!

Also, I do article writing quite a bit, so the thought of investing a bunch of time into writing content for my own site, that may or may not even make any income, is one factor that holds me back as well. I could be writing for clients and making money now, though that's just instant gratification talking. Plus writing articles is extremely boring! Ugh! Well once we become successful we'll have to outsource writing so we can focus on building more sites, so I guess we won't have to worry about that forever. ;)

Anyway, good luck to you and your projects! I definitely think niche sites, preferably huge authority sites for me, are the way to go when it comes to a sustainable long-term income. You can do it! Don't get distracted! Stop reading every seemingly interesting thread on BHW and overthinking everything! Don't give up! Keep at it! :D

What company will you be advertising? Amazon?

For affiliate marketing I think forgetting adsense might make you more money in the long run. Don't create the site for people to click on ads, bring them straight to your product :)!

Thanks for the words of encouragement :)
Why do you suggest forgetting about adsense?

I will most likely be doing amazon affiliate marketing as that has the highest CTR it seems.

I mean you don't have to scrap it I just mean think about putting affiliate products first. Collegedropout is right, some people will have adblock and won't see your ads, but even more than that would you rather make $0.30 for someone to click your ad or $10.00 if they buy your product :D? See, when they click an adense ad then their down and out of your page, bye. Only like 1% of people even click ads anymore (let me reiterate, not that it won't work, just my 2 cents) :)!

I think to get $100/day from your blog via adsence we need to work 5 years on it on regular basis, but affiliate marketing can bring results in just 1 year...

5 years?! Wow that's a very steep estimate and I don't think I believe that. It all depends on your traffic. And 1 year for $100/day via affiliate marketing with one site may take a year but make 10 niche sites and you'll reach $100/day in no time if you can rank the keywords.

Best of luck on your journey, and as others have said it might be more profitable for you to focus primarily on affiliate marketing.

I have bolden the quoted part.

I had this issue too. If you believe in yourself and you really want to make money you need to say good bye to a few $$$.

No body will turn you into a winner overnight, but if you are not willing to give away some of your money, don't expect anything to come towards you!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that money is one of the most simple reasons which drives people to do things.
(i.e. you pay for the gym, but you can run outside at the park, but the fact that you are paying for it makes you go to the gym, because you think you are putting money into it..)

Good luck mate, I will be following you!

Wondering how this journey's going for the thread starter. Did you go for Adsense or for affiliate marketing, or both?
