    Hi.

I'm new to BHW, but I've got interested in IM many years ago. In fact, I'm getting myself paid every year from AdSense through a seasonal blog related to my home town, that got plenty of visits (during 2-3 months), what gives me around 100€ yearly. Rest of year is passed at Freelancer / oDesk searching for a job - and I've got some money through it.
I'm a tech college guy, and I'm going through a difficult time in terms of money as I need to get my college costs paid, so I'm always trying to help my parents do it.

So, after doing a initial bit of research here at BHW I've saved some money and bought a domain on GoDaddy, and hosting through BHW Marketplace, researched a keyword on Keyword Planner, and I setup a Wordpress website. My niche is Weight Loss.

I'm myself a overweight person with interest in diet, as I've lost weight, done exercise, and so on... and I found myself with the knowledge to handle this and getting this done, but what I really want is to make some dough and help my parents. So, I've set up my goal "to Glory": 100€ / day on my website through AdSense. I'm with AdSense 3+ years, so I'm trying to do everything fine with no issues.

    Details:
    • SEO Competition (Market Samurai, my website is the first): RSPc3cU.png
    • Starting Date: 12 December 2014
    • I'm currently with 15 articles, each one with 300+ words.
    • Submitted already to some directories (Alltop - getting a few traffic), waiting for DMOZ approval. Facebook page built and already with 460 followers.
    • Wordpress Plugins that I currently use: 404 to Start, All in One SEO, Contact Form 7, Force Regenerate Thumbnails, Google Analytics Dashboard, Google XML Sitemaps, Limit Login Attempts, Login Lockdown, Quick Adsense, Really Simple CAPTCHA, RSS Footer, Sociable, Wordpress Database Backup, WP-PostRatings, WP-SpamShield, WP Super Cache

I'm starting this from scratch and on my own, because I've got no money to invest in something, so my articles are made by me, researching some websites and put it all together for the desired keyword. However I'm trying to gather as much information as I can get to get my website up with good ranking to achieve my main goal.

If you're willing to help me with my journey, you're welcome. I'm always looking to improve myself, and this is no exception.

    UPDATE #1 (06-03-2015)

I'm already with 16 posts on website, with an average 20 visitors per day. I'm getting a pretty good struggle to get traffic, but I'll be patient with it. Slow and steady I will get there.
These articles are a mix of Long Tail Keywords / Strategic Keywords to a easy rank. For what I'm researching right now in terms of how to get traffic to my website, I'm absolutely going to give a shot to Reddit. I've posted on a single comment my link and got instantly visitors. The thread actually got no high number of comments, but gave me some traffic. If the discussion got longer, I'm sure it would get more.

I'm starting to post daily (or with a 2 day gap) to keep adding valuable content to my website. I've got 500 followers on Facebook, got into several niche groups and I will start to post my articles and sharing my website on them as long as I post a new article.

Slightly un related though try installing P3 plugin performance profiler too, you'll be able to find what (if anything) is slowing the site and rectify the issue, which should help improve your rankings.
Aside good luck with the project!

    Thanks!
Installed and runned. I guess everything's fine with it. But I'll check out if there's some issue with imports from plugins onto the website (CSS, JS, etc) that may be slowing the load time. One nice thing though is to substitute scripts with async.

I really wish you Good Luck mate. I am in the ''fitness niche'' as well. How you plan to monetize later on?

I'm thinking of using AdSense. As I said first, I'm getting paid from AdSense yearly from a seasonal website. What I wanna do with this niche website is getting paid regularly, as well as providing information that helps my visitors.
But that doesn't mean that I can't use other type of advertising, CPA or so...

Good luck to you! The fitness/weight loss niche can be very competitive, but it is evergreen and there is always money to be made in it. It looks from your market samurai screenshot that you have identified a small subset of keywords that you can target to start with.

Don't ever stop pumping out that content! Getting visitors to your site already is great, I would defiantly try to push past that 300 word mark if you have not done so already, for most of your pages.

You can only fail if you give up.

Thank you. I know it's competitive and there will be always searches about this, as well as Fitness. When I was researching keywords, my main niches were Weight Loss and Fitness, as I have good knowledge on it.

As I said before, right now the struggle is to bring traffic so I can rank higher to start earning some money (I didn't get any). So, in the last posts I'd been trying to set it for Long Tail. I don't have too much knowledge neither everything about the niche in my head for me to write, so I research some websites from my language and translate them and give them my twist.

    UPDATE #2 (13-03-2015)

Yesterday I've got my first click on a ad on my niche website. Only got 0,11? but it's a start.

I'm posting new articles each 2 days, and got my keywords through Long Tail Pro, which I downloaded and used the trial version (like I said I've got no money to invest right now, so I'm taking all the free chances for tools that may help me) and write them all in a excel file where I register all data from Yahoo Answers related to my niche, data from Google Keyword Planner, and a status of Loss & Profit for me to check the evolution of the numbers.

In terms of traffic results, I'm getting an 20 average everyday, and it's mainly social (Reddit, Facebook). But, I'm everyday analysing the Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics data to see if I'm ranking higher and if I'm doing things right. For what I've found, I see that the traffic I get via Facebook is the most targeted for me, as I get a low rejection rate (about 16 to 25%). In other sources of traffic it stays in a average 79%. The good thing is that people are actually reading the articles, as they get in average 1 minute on my website. This, related to the traffic I'm getting right now. As I said, I'm struggling to get traffic and start bring the bacon home. All I gotta do is to continue and believe that is possible.

Good point. For what I've seen at that thread, it's not AdSense friendly and I don't want to get banned.
"Yeah, go for CPA or other monetization offers" you say... but I don't know which is the most adequate for my niche website.

Hm, if you might get banned then just leave it. I guess Adsense don't like the pop up ads.

It doesn't stand with their TOS. I'm open to more monetization methods, but I want to keep AdSense nice and still and don't risk.
Right now I'm interested in getting traffic to my website, later on I might discuss it. But thanks for the recommendation anyway ;)

Why dont you start sharing your articles on Stumbleupon and Delicious as well.
I want to ask you how often do you post on Reddit and what traffic do you get from there(something like average shared article/visitors ratio)?

The trick is not to act suspicious (seriously, we all want visitors), and have a normal usage of the social media (as a personal account). By that you keep your account safe and you are not seen as a spammer. I've put a few links on reddit, and the reddit traffic is about 36% of all traffic I'm getting. I'm waiting to achieve a higher link karma so I can have more credibility and act as normal. But there is a upvote group here on BHW that you could enter to help you do that.

As for Stumbleupon and Delicious, I have an account on SU but unlike I do on reddit, I'm not a usual user. But I think I should work a bit more on that so I can bring more traffic.

Yesterday I got some new comments from other niche bloggers on my website, and slowly I'm getting noticed by them, and I want to establish some contacts in order to help each other. But, I'm getting no money nor major traffic at all (still at average 20 per day). But I'm optimistic, because I see Bing and Google Webmasters daily and analyse the rankings. Right now my actual concern and the next posts I'll make will be a "ressurection" of pages that existed previously on the domain I've got to delete the errors stated there and 404's my website has due to that. (I'm actually redirecting them to the main page, but having more content is great!)

Looks like your project is growing slowly but surely which is very good to hear.
Didnt know about the upvote groups here, think Ill join. As for SU, I build my acc pretty fast by adding fake followers from addmefast, and for now spaming going well :D

    UPDATE #3 (02-04-2015)

After some researching through some SEO websites such as Matthew Woodward's (I really like it and learned so much from it) and so on, I decided to change my SEO plugin on my wordpress website. I was using All in One SEO, and now I use Yoast's. Then I changed my permalinks (yes, true that) and redirected the old permalinks into the new ones, to link each one (through 301 redirects). It's a dramatic change, but in just a single day got results, as this plugin changed the sitemap, etc and got instantly a boost in appearances on SERPs (tracking via Webmaster Tools). I think in some days will start getting more organic traffic. I now use Viral Content Buzz to have a more social impact and help other people also (I share them articles and they share mine) and have a more impact on my social accounts by being more active. As for my articles, I plan them even more by researching some niche websites on my language (Portuguese) and combining them for creating a richer content.

    What changed after #2 Update:
    - Published 10 articles

    - Created a "Write for Us" page for getting some guest posts (and I'll try to send some to get featured on them) - if you want PM me. (I'm on Diet / Weight Loss niche)

    - Plugins installed (I removed some): Admin Columns (for customizing my posts / pages), CalculatorPro Calculators (I used them in a article and I should use it more times), Contact Form 7 (unchanged), Google Analytics Dashboard (unchanged), iThemes Security (new on my website, but certainly a wise choice), Limit Login Attempts (unchanged), Login Lockdown (unchanged), Monarch (social sharing sidebar), Ninja Popups (popup for getting subscribers - I'll talk that subject later), P3 (to check performance - thanks tg01), Pretty Link (for cloak affiliate links - talk about it later too), Quick Adsense (unchanged), Really Simple CAPTCHA (unchanged), Simple 301 Redirects (the tool I use for redirecting the links I talked above), Sociable (unchanged), Wordpress SEO (Yoast's), Wordpress Shortcodes (I use it for putting my affiliate links getting some notice), WP-SpamShield (unchanged) and WP Super Cache (unchanged).

As you can see, I now use affiliate links. I registered on ClickBank and researched on Marketplace for some products I now promote on some articles to help my earnings, related to the article itself.

I created a free Mailchimp also, but I'll change it to AWeber and pay for an actual email subscription list. For what I've seen, email marketing on our subscribers helps lower bounce rate, getting more traffic niche-related, and many other advantages (I'll invest in this right now).

As of earnings, I'm not getting nothing. My traffic remains in the same numbers, but with the changes I made I feel I will rank higher and I'll start seeing some results. I'll post regularly now, as I got Long Tail Pro trial and got a list of some keywords I should focus to a easy rank.
