Day 1 - Started my journal on BHW, so that I can ask for help and give as much information as I can.

    - I am not going to say which business type I am targeting. Not yet anyways. But I am going to leave a journal of exactly what I am doing.

Goal #1 - To get ten sites in the number 1 positions for each business/city search.

Goal #2 - Rent advertising to the businesses, or rent the site to the businesses. I may even sell the site if the price is right. If they want to rent the site I am going to charge hosting and upkeep to stay in the number 1 position.

Experience - I own a business that puts businesses in the number 1 spot in google locals and organic listings, and we also do many other jobs for local businesses, so I do have experience with parts of this.

Why am I doing this? I want to get better with my SEO skills. I have a lot of questions about SEO and outsource a lot of my work right now, to people that know more about SEO then I do. I have been learning a lot though and figured it was time that I take the leap.

What I have done so far.
    1. Extensive keyword research with M.S. and Google keyword tool. I also use micro niche finder a little, but found it not as helpful as M.S. or Google keyword tool. I also use google insight after I find the business I want, I find out where it is getting searched the most.

    2. I have purchased the 10 domains. There have been a lot of questions as to which way to purchase the domain. Example - citybusiness.com or businesscity.com. My answer to this is use google keyword exact searches to find which one gives out the most searches. If by chance it comes back as the same on both, then use your judgement. If you were to search for that kind of business in a city, how would YOU type it into Google? Then go with that.

    3. I am going to use wordpress on 5 of the sites and use dreamweaver on the other 5. To see which ones get picked up faster. I am pretty good with both of these, so it should take no time at all. I have designed my own headers for the wordpress themes, except for one. I have designed the entire dreamweaver pages. I will be making all 10 sites live today, after I walk through all of the on site SEO and make sure that it is correct at least to my standards.

    4. I am going to try a few different techniques and getting indexed quickly. 3 actually. I will report which technique worked the fastest. I have had pretty good luck with three techniques so far and these are the three I will be using.

    5. I have google analystics installed on all 10 websites and I am about ready to go.

That is about all for today. I have to go to a family thing this evening, so I might update this later tonight. I am going to check through the sites right now, and if everything is complete I am going to make them live and start attempting to get them indexed.

I will keep this journal updated and give as much information as I can.

A little info for you, OP... I have a site that is something like you are doing. It is a site that centers around a particular keyword in a resort city in Florida... if you are an AMerican, I would be pretty surprised if you didn't know this city.

    The site is resortcitykeyword.com.

What I did was set up pages on the site and talked about the various things that made this a good place to vacation. Fishing, eating, various other recreational things to do, the major sports teams (NFL, MLB, NHL), the best hotels and motels etc.

I built the site with no advertising on it, got it ranked and then called on different companies to advertise on it. I have a fishing charter company, a siteseeing company, some assorted cruise/party boat companies on it, several diferent types of cuisine restaurants (only one per category), a featured hotel and a featured motel... pretty much what you are going to do, I assume.

I have no adsense or cj or any other monetization on the site... just banners and links for the advertisers that pay monthly. It's a nice little annuity that pays over 1600.00 a month and took a lot less effort than one would think.

After I built the site, I made appointments with various business owners, put a link to their site if they had one, slapped together a little banner put it on the site and visited them with my laptop.

Seeing their company name and logo with phone numbers to their business as well as links to their business made it an easy sale.

Take what works for you from my post and toss the rest but your idea can be profitable.

Thank you for your in put. I have actually been reading that ebook you sent me also and it really helped me out with one of my clients sites, as I do have some pr 3 and pr 4 sites of my own to link to. The link push is very helpful.

Right now, I do about $10,000 a month in working for other companies getting them ranked and moving them up, and what not, but I have to outsource some of the SEO stuff, so I am going this project.

Your advice is very helpful. Thank you very much. I think I am going to PM you this evening.

    Update - After the weekend - 8/2/2010

I will edit this post through out the day as I go on, but as of right now, all 10 of my sites are live and indexed. Feeling pretty good about everything. Now for the off-page SEO to begin.

Have to get back to work. I will update this later this evening.

Good luck, local SEO is a bit different than regular SEO - if you want some pointers let me know I'd rather not post out in the open.
