Have you ever experienced the stomach-churning feeling of leaving a 8-5 job and venturing the unknown world--in my case, yes--of freelancing?

I did just that, and, oh boy, it is indeed nerve-wracking.

I want to be a freelance writer and just started to be like one, approximately 8 days ago in Fiverr. I set up my account/profile, created some gigs I know I am capable of doing, and, the most difficult phase, waiting for someone to notice/order one of my gigs.

Fiverr is overly saturated with sellers, particularly, content writers like me. But it will not hurt to try, right? I just set my expectations low because I don't want to crash and burn.

    Then, something odd happened.

My first order came in August 21. That is exactly 5 days since I joined!

Because of too much excitement, I write the article right away and delivered a 24-hour gig in less than 10 hours! I got five-star rating for my first ever order. *happy dance*

However, I should not sit back, relax and just wait. I know there is no room for slackers in the freelance world. I still have more to learn on how to promote gigs and such.

And, still waiting for another order to come in. Perhaps only at the time luck was on my side. *sigh*

I will keep you posted and maybe, just start a blog out of this! Haha!

    Thanks for reading! :)

Sure it's worth to try it. If you offer something unique related to other sellers you can make some nice chunk of money with your service. Make sure to deliver your orders as soon as possible, but this hint seems to be unnecessary since you already have good approach for this :D

Nah, I just got lucky. I still consider myself as a newbie freelancer. It is a "you against the online world" situation out there. By the way, thanks for the sound advice!

This could be luck, or your fresh account landed on "New arrivals" section in Fiverr, so your gig got higher exposure due to it's freshness.

I offered something unique and they sent me a PM saying that my gig was removed because there was no "competition"

I was getting 15 orders a day and my work was a 1 minute job of copy/paste.

A one-minute copy/paste gig? This sure is unique. :) In other Fiverr-like sites you're application is rejected (true story) because they require you to offer a unique gig. But in Fiverr...

Yep, I asked them why my gig got removed and they legit said, "You have no competition"

Buy some reviews or do review exchange. That will help. You already have one review, but that won't be enough in a place where the competition is fierce and your opponents already have hundreds of positive reviews under their belt. Overdeliver, provide a better service than the top sellers, offer extras for free.

But in a low price, right? In the name of building your brand. Oh well, better start tweaking. Thanks for this advice! :)

why dont you create your own personal portfolio website where you can place all your portfolio there. If you got rejected at upwork, just try other flatform like freelancer

    It's not for everyone i guess. :)

If you spend a little more time here, you'll find out that most of us like to bend the rules here and there a bit not until it becomes illegal, but until it violates the terms of sites.

If you check the HaF or WTB sections, there are countless threads, where people are looking for reviews either for money or in exchange for a review, not just Fiverr, but Upwork or other freelancing sites too. And i can't remember anyone here, who would have been banned because of fake reviews on Fiverr, although i think i remember a FB group, which was a review exchange circle, which got caught.

So yea, it's not 100% safe, but Fiverr gets its $1 cut from the fake reviews too, so i guess until it's not reported by someone, they aren't actively searching for it.
