Hey guys, so I just got my first tattoo. I went to Outward Bound a few years back, and it really changed my life (for the better) so I decided to get the OB flag tattooed on my arm. It's called a Blue Peter, here's a picture of the design:

Will upload a pic of my arm once it heals!

That depends on the area you're getting tattooed and what your threshold is. I personally found mine somewhat relaxing. It's on the back of my calf. Some people say that's a spot that hurts, because there's so much muscle, but I'd definitely rather have muscle than bone when it comes to getting work done.

It really depends on the person. I have one on my arm and it wasn't very painful, more irritating than anything, but at the tattoo parlor there are pictures on the wall of people while they are getting tattooed and one of the guys was actually crying.

For anyone considering getting a tat, I can say that for me, personally, it barely hurt at all. It feels like you're just getting a deep tissue massage... but yknow, from needles. Also, my girlfriend got one on the inside of her wrist (more sensitive spot) and it still didn't hurt that much. It burns a little now that it's been a few hours, but I consider it 100% worth it, and I wouldn't let a little pain keep me from getting another one.

I also advise that if anyone's thinking about it, make sure it's something that means something to you. This is advice you'll hear a LOT regarding tattoos, but it bears repeating. The OB flag is very relevant to my life, and I want to be able to look at a physical reminder of it. As long as it's something that you'll want to look at every day, and something that has lasting significance in your life, the minor amount of pain associated with getting it will be nothing compared to the satisfaction of looking at it years from now. Also, anyone who says that getting a tattoo is a bad idea because your skin will get saggy, has obviously never had a tattoo of something they felt strongly positive about (or they got a photo-realistic tattoo of their baby son's face or something, because nobody likes saggy wrinkly baby faces- not cute).

    Anyways, here's a pic:

    And here's my girlfriend's:

Hers has a little more personal significance that I don't feel like getting into, but yeah. Neither of them hurt that bad, and they both came out really well :) By the way, for anyone in the Huntsville, AL area, The Tattooed Lady is the place we got the tats (as well as her tongue piercing) done at (she has 6 others that she got at a studio called Devotions, which is also awesome and did 9 of her 21 total piercings).

Now you just need to make sure you apply a thin layer of Tattoo goo or A&D ointment for the next 7-10 days. Don't pick at it!

Yes haha, that's what I keep hearing- except for A&D ointment, that is a BIG NO-NO and it will fuck up your tattoo, hardcore. The artist put some petroleum jelly on when he finished cleaning it up, and I have some Johnson & Johnson baby lotion that I put on an hour after, and plan to apply religiously.

My next tatt (yes, already thinking about another one; I'm hooked haha) is to have the letters "OB" underneath this one, with the "O" as a ship's wheel and the "B" as a mast with sails blowing in the wind.

Here is a brief mockup, which I think illustrates the idea as well as shattering any dreams I may have had of becoming a graphic designer:

    P.S. I stole the sails ;)
