1. Apply for sure, but make sure to use the long URLs (no short links) throughout to make it easy to switch to another tracking ID in the future... Just in case you lose the account.

2. I think guest post links are the best.

3. Yes, people use it to diversify their link building. But I don't think it gives any weight.

Good luck on your journey. I started one recently myself. My site is about 7 months old now.

Thanks for the tips man, appreciate it.

Just now came through your journey and all the best to reach $1,000/month soon...

good luck with your journey. Just following :)
A question: The link DA:84. what's type? Profile, Comment, or Content. etc...
Thanks

Thanks guys.

Sunday question: do you think it's a good idea to move the location of the Siteground server to the US? It's $29. Since I'm targeting this market, I think it could influence the page speed load. Thoughts?

Hello all,

A shameful update for February.

tenor.gif

After a good start to the month and adding one solid article (that is already getting some traction in SERPs), I became a lazy f*ck and due to too many distractions (mostly a city break and one rave party), my momentum went to fuck for the rest of the month.

I've written bits here and there but nothing close to what I expected of me. Furious about it but no point in dwelling now that the new month is here.

Despite my failure in February, I did reach 1 goal...

February Results:

Number of new articles to be added: 5-10 / 1
Total words to be written: 15k-25k / 4,7k
Total do-follow links to be acquired: 1-2 / 0
Organic visits in February: 10-15 / 26
Average SERPs Position: 47,5

Yeah, despite productivity being embarrassingly bad, the 6 articles I have on my website have actually exceeded my expectations traffic-wise in February. This has given me a kick up the ass that I probably needed and acted as motivation to do much, much better in March. So, here's the March plan.

Plan for March:

Number of new articles to be added: 5-10 / 1
Total words to be written: 20k-25k / 3,9k
Total do-follow links to be acquired: 1-2 / 0
Organic visits in February: 35-50 / 6

As you can see, I have already managed to write a long, solid article with a low keyword difficulty score. I've just added it minutes ago and are about to start a new one.

3 Questions For BHers:

1. I'm seeing most organic visits with strange metrics, as visible on the screenshot below:

organic-1.png

Can you guys shed some light on what is happening here?

2. I want to finally apply for the Amazon campaign. Is there any guide available about what I need to make sure of before hitting the "Apply" button so I avoid being rejected?

3. Is it a good idea to move the location of the Siteground server to the US? It's $29. Since I'm targeting this market, I think it could influence the page speed load. Thoughts?

Thanks so much for your time as always and have a great evening.

For an affiliate site you do not need a hosting that cost $29, it is extremely expensive, for 29$ I can buy a dedicated server that can handle hundred websites.

I suggest that you can buy a VPS (which is around 3-5$/month), it will be 512-1Gb Ram and it can handle 2-3 sites.

You misunderstood me, mate. $29 is the cost of relocating my server to the US (one-time fee).

1. From Google: Bounce rate is an Internet marketing term used in web traffic analysis. It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and then leave ("bounce") rather than continuing to view other pages within the same site.

2. There is no guide needed. Just go through their terms and make sure your site is not breaking any of them. And also note that you must refer at least 3 sales in the first 180 days, or else, the account will be rejected.

3. I always buy USA based servers, but I don't know if It has that much impact on your rankings.

Haha, mate, I'm familiar with the terms. I'm just not sure if it's possible the time-on-site is equal to 00:00:00 with a regular visit? There are 4 of them out of 5 as you can see.

1. It means your visitors just leave or that their page speed was so slow that they didn't want to wait for the homepage to fully load.
2. As long you comply with their TOS they should accept you.
3. I was in such a situation myself, bought the siteground 1 year host but chose NL as location, i sped those 29$ to move to USA server and my rankings/traffic got a huge spike but the problem with siteground is that the renewal price is to high, paying 140$ for one year just don't fit my budget. So yeah, when targeting US market just sick with US based hosting.

Good luck with your journey :)

I've noticed that the BR for my pages is around 80-85% which is huge I guess.

What would be the best techniques to reduce it for an Amazon Affiliate Site? Any tips BHers?

When my Amazon affiliate site was only a few months old, I noticed that the bounce rate was high. I removed popups and also took a good look at my articles. I'm not sure how you are formatting your articles but space is important. I used a slightly higher font and made my sentences shorter. I also decreased the number of sentences before I started a new paragraph.

Basically, I was trying to do the things that make it easier for me to read an article. My bounce rate improved after removing the popups. I also saw an improvement after making my articles more appealing to readers who have a short attention span (most everyone) and less intimidating to poor readers. I was taught years ago that you need to write as if your audience were 6th graders.

I wish you the best and will be following your journey.

Thanks for the insight. How is your site doing now?

The site has been active for about 10 months and it's doing all right. Income averages around $300 a month. This site is definitely a passion site and not really what I would have chosen to make serious money. I'm a musician and the site is about everything bass guitar. I mix reviews of guitars, amps and accessories along with personal thoughts and experiences. I'm planning on starting another "magazine" type of blog which will be more of a make money site. I'll post my journey when I get that site active.

I'm really a writer and have published over 40 books on Amazon. You can only do so many things at once so I have to not overdo it.;)

Update time (19.03.20):

giphy.gif

Since this week, my day job has been moved to home office, my gym got closed and all social venues are banned as well. As sad as the coronavirus situation is, I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and I feel blessed that I will have more time to learn and work on my website in the coming days/weeks.

I've just added my second article for the month with 3624 words
. Quite excited about this one as the keyword isn't used by my competitors at all and it has a decent number of monthly searches.

Apart from writing, I've been also working on tidying up the design of the website and trying some different tactics when it comes to BounceRate. It turns out it's about 25% higher on mobile devices so I've been tinkering with fonts, images and the design of my comparison tables. I've also signed up with Yandex Metrica to know better how users behave on my site.

The good news for this month is that I have already surpassed my monthly target of visits which had a minimum of 35. Currently, I'm sitting on 37 visits with an 81% BR level.

The bad news is, I still haven't recorded any sales. I still have 166 days to deliver 3 so I'm accepted for Amazon so I'm sure I will somehow manage.

The plan for the remainder of the month is to reach my words/articles goal, acquire 1 DF backlink, try to lower the BR a bit and dig up more low-difficulty score keywords.

March Goals Update:

Number of new articles to be added: 5-10 / 2
Total words to be written: 20k-25k / 7,5k
Total do-follow links to be acquired: 1-2 / 0
Organic visits in February: 35-50 / 36

Good luck on your journey!

About BR, I doubt you should pay much attention to it. I might be wrong though, but the numbers don't reflect on the actual "time spent" on your site. Back a few years ago, I installed a plugin on one of my health niche sites, and it was about able to show a more accurate bounce rate, I can't seem to remember the name anymore.

Hello all,

For the past few days, I've been digging up some new keywords for my site as well as correcting some of the mistakes I found in my previous 8 articles.

I've also created much better-looking comparison tables as well as product boxes for affiliate links using NinjaTables (recommend this one as it's free and will do okay until I can get AWP).

Today I have added the third article this month. This time it's an informational article consisting of 1500 words. I'm linking two of my money articles from this one.

The plan for the last 9 days of the month is to meet my goals for:

  • articles (2 to go)
  • total words (11k to go)
  • do-follow links (at least 1)
On a positive note, I have already surpassed my organic traffic goal. Today I had my 50th visit this month and 3 of my articles are yet to be indexed.

This how it looks like in GSC and GA so far:

gsc.png

ga.png

March Goals Update:

Number of new articles to be added: 5-10 / 3
Total words to be written: 20k-25k / 9k
Total do-follow links to be acquired: 1-2 / 0
Organic visits in February: 35-50 / 51

New Questions:

1. I'm targeting the US market. This is the market I've been doing all my keyword research for and this is the market I want to get the most visits from. Are there any particular ways that I can make my website "target" US customers more? So far I've changed the targeted audience location in Google Search Console. Is there anything I can do to help this? So far, the US traffic is 35%. Should I consider it as normal?
2. I'm yet to set up Social Media profiles for the site. Should I consider it super important right now?
3. WEB 2.0s... to be honest, I'm new to the topic and just starting to learn about it right now. Are there any obvious must-do's and don't-do's associated with it? Any solid resource on the topic would be great as well.
4. For my LSI keywords, I'm using LSIgraph, Google Keyword Planner and Ubersuggest. Anything worth adding here?
5. My site is a niche site covering one type of product (ie. vacuums). Is there any particular pattern I should follow when it comes to internal linking on my site? I know that for multi-category siloed sites it's important to link topically-relevant pages but how about a site like mine?

Thank you all! :)
