Hello Everyone, my name is Mike. I've been scouring over BHW for a bit but never really got into the SEO thing and then this last 2 months its my new obsession. I've been doing web development for fun for a long time, and then moved into a 2 year contract where I was basically hashing out squeeze pages for crappy As Seen On TV knockoffs, but it gave me the knowledge to develop credit card processing and let me dabble with a bit of affiliate marketing. Fast forward to being left without a job, and working tech support for 2 years, I went crazy working for someone else, and just can't do it, so I've now landed myself in a start up business for a client on salary SEO work doing Amazon Product Ranking. Not extremely glamorous but hey its a start, I finally get to add that SEO knowledge with my web development kit. Well to prep myself for that job I started coming here daily looking at methods and doing my best to research what the hell I was doing, still not convinced I do know entirely and that inspired me to take this time to set down the games for a bit and try to push my own projects to the point where I can comfortably work for myself, tis the goal!

So for my first IM jouney and not really knowing what I'm doing I wanted to try to corner multiple avenues.. but Idk, I read finding a niche was important so I did. I tried to research keywords, but truth be told I'm still new at that bit. Based on the keyword all variations get like 0 traffic except the one I'm targeting, which averages around 160,000 a month in searches. So The last 4 days I hammered out a blog, covering my niche, gave it a facebook social feel (since there were a few competing forums already) and got what I thought was a rather impressive domain name secured. Using SEO yoast plugin I've tried to optimize all my articles. For starters we currently added 190 articles (covering different "types" of my niche" and are adding 1-2 unique articles daily. I added a featured video section and I'm trying to record 1-2 unique videos a week and add to youtube to drive traffic that way. I submitted the site and sitemap to bing, oz(somthing?), yahoo directory, and google webmaster tools. I made the design look interesting and created my own logo. I

For optimization I have adsense on youtube, adsense ads classfully placed throughout the site, and I'm running an amazon affiliate selection of related products to my niche.
To help get traffic and convince people to register for my community, I was offering a gift card in exchange for submitting photos for my niche's photo contest, but it doesn't seem to be working...

The site is about 4-5 days old at this point and I know it's going to take time, and technically it is an info site, with the community features as just an add on, but I haven't gotten any signups yet. I haven't added any kind of email marketing yet, although I plan too.

The net results after the first few days, is Rank #2 on Bing for my keyword, Rank #3 for a slight variation, and Page 3.... unfortunately on google, not sure how hard that's going to be to rank up. I really tried to come out swinging with sheer volume of rich keyword content, not sure if I should bother with backlinks, or really how to go about implementing them. The jist I got was you need to actually sumbit them to a directory to be effective? Idk, I'll research later.

I'm running ads to try to generate initial traffic using my free credits, Facebook to my page (which seems the least cost effective), Bing which is super cost effective but very little results, and google adwords which is around 10x the cost per click, and I'm trying to judge if that'll be worth using.

Initial 5 day traffic shows around 15-30 unique visitors a day on the high end. And I've banked a whole $0.54 so far, I'm not trying to be discouraged and I know it takes time, I just want to get conversions!

Well I'll update this later, as time progresses I thought it was decent for my first project but I still have a lot to learn I know. This forum is awesome btw, such a wealth of knowledge even if it is obscure at times.

Wow. That's an impressive amount of work for four days. How did you get the 190 articles written so quickly? Did you out source them? Are they of good quality?

(Laughs, breathes, continues laughing):proud:

Heres some tips, use blog carnival, goarticles and hubpage, if you can find a PR company that can actually get a syndicate on fox news or cbs money then that's auto page 2-5 for most serp if its low to med comp.

Decent Quality I think, 400-600 words, with a different keyword focus, proper formatting and tags. 3-5% keyword density.
No outsourcing yet.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check these out today.
