BACKGROUND: I've been around the digital marketing world since the early 2000s. Instead of having a job in college I started buying and selling domain names over at DNForum.

After college I developed and sold a PHP script that allowed people to run their own online arcade websites. It was during this time I started my very first public journey which resulted in earning $50/day via online gaming websites.

So now I'm back and starting fresh.

I currently run numerous websites but for this journey I'm going to start with a brand new website, social media accounts, etc.

WHY $5 PER DAY?: Although I'd love to make $100, $1000 or even $10000 per day, I decided to start at a lower number to stay motivated. If I hit the $5/day goal for 7 straight days during this 60 day period then I will consider this journey complete and open a new one with a higher goal.

RESEARCH: The majority of how I plan on accomplishing my initial goal will come from post here at BHW and what I read online. I'll do my best to cite any tips / techniques that I will be using so you can follow along.

UPDATES: My hope is to post daily updates at least 5 times per week and be around as much as possible to answer questions.

POSTED LINKS IN THIS THREAD: Any links that I post in this thread will be real tools / services / forum-threads / blog-posts that I'm using and will not contain any affiliate links. I will also be blogging about this journey on a soon-to-be-released website which will contain affiliate links, but as far as this thread goes, I will be affiliate-link-free.

ENOUGH TALKING ... WHEN WILL YOU START: Wednesday, April 1st.

If you made it this far into this post, thank you for sticking with me and I can't wait to get your input on my initial BHW journey to $5 per day.

Many threads here should start with a journey of 5$ a day! How you're going to choose the niche?
    Good luck :

Great question ... and I've been asking myself that all day.

My internal debate has been "do I focus on a single niche" or "do I start a multi-niche website" ... I know the multi-niche website would cut initial costs (i.e only one website / domain) but might not have the same sort of impact of having a lot of single-niche websites.

    Any suggestions?

    Good luck!

If you are looking for a niche, just stay close to yourself. When you pick a niche where you don't have knowledge/interest about, it will get bored within a couple of days/weeks.

Great advice! I will keep that in mind when selecting my niche in the next day or two.

Nice, good to see a down to earth journey. You should get a niche that interests you but make a balance with one that has keywords with good volume and low competition. You should just start brain storming, choose some niches and take about 5 minutes in each niche to come up with keywords out of your head. If you can't come up with a lot of keywords in that time, don't go for that niche. Just my opinion. Good luck.

UPDATE: After taking the advice from fellow BHWers, I found a niche that is very interesting to me. The numbers would not blow the roof off of any place, but it will be a good starting point.

    - 550 monthly searches, medium competition, $1.92 suggested CPC
    - $100ish average sale on CB products with $200+ average rebel

Can't wait for Wednesday to get here so I can officially start the journey.

QUICK UPDATE: Will be purchasing the domain name this evening. It basically will be a [longtail keyword][noun] combination.

Adding to this challenge is that I live in an area where I'm unable to be an Amazon affiliate. Granted I never made a lot from Amazon, but it does limit my monetization options.

Will focus mainly on affiliate marketing using some products on CB and a few other places that fit into the niche.

When you say medium competition, did you get that just from adwords or from your own research?

That was just from Adwords Keyword tool.

You know that that competition is just for people who are going to advertise with Google Adwords right? It has nothing to do with google search engine competition

    DAY 1 REPORT

    Domain Name

I went ahead and registered the domain name [longtail keyword][noun] dotcom.

Back when I built a network of 50+ online arcade websites I used the technique of [longtail keyword] and then adding either ?123? or ?365? or ?247? at the end. There was no real thought behind it at the time but I ended up ranking at least half of those arcades within the first 3 results on Google.

This time around I decided against it because I wasn?t sure if add ?123? to the end would keep a professional feel for the website.

    Hosting

As far as hosting goes for this journey, I already have a dedicated server setup for my other websites so I will just be placing this website on it. This way I can save some additional $$$ to be used elsewhere.

    Website Setup

Going to be using WordPress to power this first website since I?ve been developing on it for about 10 years now. However to save on development time I?m going to use a free theme from WordPress.org. The theme is called SPARKLING. I'm new so I can't post links yet, but you can search WordPress.org for it.

The theme itself is developed on Bootstrap so it takes care of any responsive issues I might run into.

If the website really takes off then I?ll use my WordPress background and really customize it, but to get up and running as fast as possible I?m going to stay pretty stock on the look.

    Next Steps

In a previous update I mentioned there are at least 3-5 products in this niche that I can promote right off the bat. Normally I would just get right to the sales pitch on my website, but since this is a brand new website, I?m going to take it a little slower.

Instead I?m going to start with building background (informational) articles about this niche. I?ve used services such as TextBroker, Fiverr, etc. for this, but taking the advice of t0mmy I will be producing this content myself.

(this was from t0mmy's post "New To The Scene? READ THIS! How To Pick A Niche You Can Actually Make Money In!" ... once I get most posts and am able to link, I will relink this quote)

With that being said, the next couple of days will be focused on writing 7-10 articles that I can start scheduling out this weekend.

    Financials

Expenses: $1.17 (domain name thanks to GD coupon)
    Revenue: $0.00

Thanks for taking the time to read this update.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share them. Always looking for help.

    DAY 2 REPORT

Don't have much to report today. Spent the majority of the day researching and writing content for the new website. Probably finished 5 articles of around 300-500 words each. The plan will be to launch the actual website this weekend with 3-5 articles and then continue to drip feed articles for the next couple of weeks.

    DAY 3 REPORT

Another full night of writing is ahead of me. Wanting to finish 5-10 articles tonight so that at launch I'll have close to a month's worth of drip-fed content.

Still on track to launch this weekend and that is when the fun updates will happen.

My plan is to use Accuranker for keyword tracking, but still considering Serpbook.

    What is your suggestion?

    DAY 4 UPDATE

Spent all of last night and today getting the website up and running on WordPress and installing the new theme.

Also managed to write three more articles.

I did go against my original plan and ended up ordering 6 articles from Fiverr. Total cost was $25.00.

I've set the three articles I wrote last night to drip feed to the website starting Monday morning.

I came across something really interesting last night as well ... the domain name I registered use to belong to a iOS and Android developer who still has some apps in the app stores. Not sure if that will drive any traffic, but getting analytics activated right now.

    Financials

Expenses: $26.17 (+$25 for the articles)
    Revenue: $0.00

    DAY 6 UPDATE

Spent yesterday working on my copywriting / headline writing ... how many of you have read Tested Advertising Methods by John Caples?

Taking some principles from that book and going to apply them to my new websites.

Anyways ... officially launched the website today with it's inaugural post. Not sure how, but already got one click on a CB link in the article ... and it wasn't me!

Haven't another scheduled for Wednesday to post.

Also hoping to get the 6 articles from Fiverr sometime on Thursday so I can get them scheduled.

    Will give another update tomorrow.
