I am from the UK and have been on vacation in the US for the last two weeks (Florida).

I just find everything is so much better out here. A few examples:

1.The food is much nicer, and you always get more for your money.
    2.Everything is cheaper.
3.Paying for things is easier - no need for pin numbers, just swipe your card and sign - its much easier.
4.the weather is much nicer (hotter).
    5.The cars are all bigger.
    6.the roads are bigger.
7.You can turn right at a red light (I hope thats right:)).
8.the grass is much better! (not weed, actual grass).
9.when you go to a restaurant they tell you on the bill percentages and amounts for tips.
    10.unlimited refills in McDonalds.
    11.everyone is more friendly.
    12.the petrol/Diesel is LOADS cheaper!

Theres loads more things I have noticed since being here, but cant think of them all right now.

I wish I could move here, but getting a work VISA is very hard I think.

I loved it there in Southern Cali for 2 years. The list you wrote is so right! Getting ill is pricey, but your list easily outweighs that.

You know what, I noticed that even the sky looks bigger over there. I know that sounds weird, but it just did. I'd love to go back.

^^Oh yea, I forgot about that one.
    Whats the health insurance like?
My partner was ill whilst we were here, we had to go see a doctor, the first place we tried wanted $400 just to be seen! the next place wanted $80 which we took, but its crazy.
We take it for granted in the UK that its all totally free.

I was on a student visa so got the college's health insurance. $650 a year, which is actually a steal compared to the usual standard. And I still paid a $10 "co pay" to see the doc for my flu, which was a bit weird because I'd never heard of it, lucky I had my card on me.

If you get a job then the company will have you covered most times. If not, make a lot of money in IM to absorb the hit :).

Lol! I'm so pissed I never went to hooters as well :-/

Mo guess for full time employment the insurance would be a lot more, probably much bigger issue if you are self employed, and bigger still if you don't have much money - I can't imagine what that's like in America.

having said that , I do think nhs in the UK is a flawed system - my partner has some health issues and she has been waiting over 6 months already, which is pretty frustrating.

I don't know if it's just in the tourist areas but everyone is more out going as well.

In the Nike store the other day all the staff done a birthday celebration for one of their team in the middle of the store- singing, dancing etc which was so cool!

1.The food is much nicer, and you always get more for your money.
I don't indulge in gorge eating, so I prefer higher quality smaller portions over lower quality large portions.

    2.Everything is cheaper.
This depends on what you're shopping for, but for accessories and clothing, this is true!

3.Paying for things is easier - no need for pin numbers, just swipe your card and sign - its much easier.
I usually pay with cash, but when I do use my debit card I find this convenient.

4.the weather is much nicer (hotter).
Go to Death Valley if you like hot weather.

    5.The cars are all bigger.
And the people drive more recklessly, at least in California and Arizona (especially Arizona).

    6.the roads are bigger.
This is great for avoiding those reckless drivers. :D

7.You can turn right at a red light (I hope thats right:)).
You can turn right as long as there is no sign that says "no right on red" present.

8.the grass is much better! (not weed, actual grass).
Again, just don't visit places like Palm Springs, there's hardly any grass there and when there is grass, it's dying.

9.when you go to a restaurant they tell you on the bill percentages and amounts for tips.
I've never noticed this before. I usually just leave a tip on the table based on what I think is 'fair'.

    10.unlimited refills in McDonalds.
This is great for when you're very thirsty.

    11.everyone is more friendly.
This depends on where you visit, but for the most part it's a façade; they only smile and greet you because it's "mandatory", but if you try to have a conversation with them, they'll think you're creepy. Besides, it gets confusing when you ask everyone how they're doing and they all answer "Amazing" with a smile on their face when they're in a bad mood.

    12.the petrol/Diesel is LOADS cheaper!
And people in the United States are always complaining about it being expensive. :D

always been tempted to see what its like over there... I do love the UK, unlike most people, and I do love London, unlike 99.99% of people, maybe I just live in a nice area lol.

If I were to go to the USA, I would probably go somehwere in the Cali country, not city, or maybe the Mid West. That said Canada would probably suit my personality better.

    Post some pictures David! :D

I was there in the summer, and I agree with a lot of what you said!

Everyone seemed to be friendly, but then again, when you're on holiday, most people you meet are there to serve, and therefore it is their job.

Haha that's funny about the friendliness. I know what you're saying, it's the same in the UK, but in the UK its much less friendly.
except for in Scotland where I moved recently, very sincere there.

Yes I love the UK too, and I love London, but moved out to the sticks recently :)
best thing about london is the mix of people and the fact that it's ALWAYS active.
    pics shortly.

Try but I think the U.S. is well known for being very good at hospitality.

Oh yea I just remembered my favourite thing - the waste disposal systems fitted in the sinks!

I would consider it, but I know it's hard to get a work VISA out here.
also I have trouble even getting a tourist VISA.

Take a look at the salaries that are being paid
Then take in the price of a car , insurance, health insurance, Home and home insurance
Home taxes, There are a lot of hidden charges, that you as a tourist don't see.

People are overly friendly, because it comes with the job,

A lot of the stuff you take for granted in the uk, costs an arm and a leg in the US.

Dental treatment, College. any form of hospitilaztion, If you arent insured or have the money to pay, they will turn you away
This would never happen in a European country.
