    :::whine whine whine:::

    I've was doing well with Ape's "proxy leeching by hand" tutorial. In fact, after getting it all down, I felt like a genius. Don't tell anyone, but I did some strutting too.

    Lately I've been getting my proxy up ready to do business ... then POOOOOF! It's down. Ok fine. I search for a few thousand other available Socks5 proxies. I find the one I need ... and POOOOF! it goes down.

    My needs aren't complicated. I want only one-time, geo-specific drive-by Socks5 opportunities that are open for a spell. I don't need dedicated services.

    Is it time for me to move to the next level of scanning for my own proxies and get my ass kicked off my ISP?

    Thanks!

    You can scan from a VPS but I'd not register with my real name or connect with my real IP as they could try to push high costs to you.
    Never do a large scan from a home connection! a) slow and b) risks your line and might even risk legal troubles
    proxy_go probably is just lucky, most ISPs won't ignore all those abuse mails. But even if you are at such an ISP, if you cross the border (too much scanning) you'll get your ass booted sooner than later (or the ISP is kicked from his uplink, also seen that happening).

    Genereally when using proxies, if you want reliability you need to invest money. highspeed offshore servers or commercial proxies.
    The stuff you can find easily is also found by thousands of other people easily, including childporn traders, scriptkiddies, fakers and all the SEO workers.

    Don't bother scanning. Write your own scripts to automate the "proxy leeching by hand" method, expand on it, leech+ test more proxy lists and you'll do great.

    Thanks JustOne. I'm looking for a solution.

    If only my US-based ISP could be retarded like that. I'm pretty sure mine would throw me to the curb immediately.
    Yeah, I'm looking into getting this done more efficiently.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

    Because my needs are almost always drive-by one-offs. Once I use a proxy, I don't really need it again.
