Hey there,

I run a regional SEO firm, we get great results... but I have extra employees. We finished our private blog network, and now there is ALOT of free time around the office. (2 hours a day per person) I don't want to cut their hours, I just need to find something that they can do.

What We CURRENTLY Do:
  • Write articles for client, place them on our 100 domain blog network.
  • Do guest posting to gain natural backlinks (MyBlogGuest)
  • Write copy for client sites, build a few backlinks to deep content pages. (Good for long tails)
  • Directory Submissions
  • Manual social page creation (Squiddo, Weebly, Webs, Blogs)
  • Scrapebox blasts after 3 months of white hat
  • Press Release Distribution via PRweb and PR.com
  • Infographic, Meme Creation or some sort of viral campaign (high paying clients only)

I feel like we can do more...
Rankings are fine, cash flow is fine, we get clients... We just have alot of free time. What do you guys recommend? Sell articles, buy old domains, write more articles?... I need GOOD tasks to give them!

What would you guys do with 12 employees, each with 2 free hours per day?

Plenty of things you can do to make their experience working for you enjoyable.

24 man hours per day sounds like you can get rid of 3 people.

Or spend the time developing your own sites.

You only employ people if you have something for them to do, if not, fire them. They are eating your profit otherwise.

Unless they are excellent workers who have been with you for the long haul it's a no brainer. On the other hand keeping them on for too long to do menial tasks is not a good idea either.

I used to run a business employing construction labourers, I had 25 employee's at the hight of my powers... after the GFC things got quiter and the quality of the work wasn't as good as it once was but I kept a lot of them anyway because I became friends with them or they were good and I was holding out for the next big job. BAD BAD MISTAKE. Over the course of a year I wittled away 300k waiting for things to get better and they never did. Don't be afraid to cull the herd when you have to, it's part of running a successful business.

have each of them build 2 or 3 personal blogs and make this a new network. Leter sell posts on this network.

Good work, Glad you are doing well, I like to hear more and more people doing well, instead of hearing negative non stop...

My advice would be to buy some aged domains and setup another blog network of your own, this will always come in handy. Instead of having just one network of 100, building one more on another host of c class ip's that should keep them busy for a while.

And you can't go wrong because PBN will always come in handy.. You never know what google is thinking for the next of hundreds of updates...

Guess this kind of thread is against the BHW rules. You should open a BST I guess.

Too much free time...If only we were all so lucky...

Do remember that time is not free. It's the single most expensive resource.

Your people don't have enough to do? HOW? In this clusterbucket of an industry we call SEO and IM, there are just not enough hours in a day to do everything.

This notion of having too much free time is, in my eyes, a lack of creativity and thinking outside the box.

...or is this a thinly veiled self promotion?...tres black hat

Buy aged domains. Get them to build quick sites and flip them. Splitting them with the employees on an incentive business. 2 hrs a day ? reckon they could each do 2 -3 sites a week........If I could get away with it they would be on rota detailing my car !

How can they have to much free time? Aren't you constantly looking to expand your business? Use your free time and theirs to find more customers so you and them can have more work.
Motivate them by paying them more if they will get more work...what worker would like to dick around having nothing to do instead of working full time and getting paid even more for that? It's an offer they can't refuse.

Unless...you already know that and this thread is a step to expand your business.

I would have them create some long term authority sites to generate some side income. Personally I would divide it up and try different things with each person, and see which idea comes out most profitable

Got a feeling he's trying to do a JV or offer a service to us. Too much free time HA HA HA. You in IM bro?

create web 2.0's for us here on BHW as a giveaway?

2 free hours per day? Like you serious want to take that away?

let them leave earlier until you find some extra job for them...be fair...if they do quality work and they finish everything on time, let them know that you are satisfied and let them relax...if you can't find them more tasks, don't blame them..it's your fault... running a business and paying money for you employees is not everything...like the boss in our old office thought...I'm the king, I'm the one paying, you guys are my slaves...you have to do more and more every day, because your soul is mine! lol, bullshit

Hey guys. I read through your suggestions. To be clear, I'm not looking for self promotion... Infact, I would rather not even say the name of the company on here. We're fully "white-hat"... Anyway, I'm having them research old domains from NameJet and the drop auctions now. I'll have them write tons of content and do directory submissions and guest posting to get them ranking. I'm thinking about attempting an interlinked network of domains, its risky, but could be really good for sculpting PageRank.

Thanks for your ideas. Building websites for rankings is probably the way to go.
