yeah it is. just checked. my google query is different though. hehe.
More relevant would be something like inurl:.edu "guestbook" + "yourniche"
It is generally accepted that .edu backlinks are not more powerful by merit of being .edu - however, they are more powerful by merit of being older and having more links pointing to them.
does it really help in getting higher PR ? using this trick..
Try to find pages that pass on link juice (******** links) where the page has pr itself - then yes it will help. But PR is not something to shoot for in itself - many pages without PR outrank pages with PR and the higher ranking will get you more traffic.
This is a really great technique. I've found a few good ones already. I just hope the link sticks.
