2,000 domains at $10 each are: $20k a year only on domains.
Yes, my renewal fees are actually less per domain, because many are .co.uk domains, which are slightly cheaper, but I think it's like 2500 domains maybe, so the total is likely a bit more than $20k/year, and yes you can multiply that by an average of around 12-14 years I've owned these domains, so the costs do indeed add up over time. This is one of the reasons I've decided it's time to lighten up my portfolio substantially.
Do you have that so much money and you are looking to people to build the sites? Doesn't make any sense to me...
I'm not sure why it doesn't make any sense to you, but I can give some more detail that perhaps helps to make it "make sense"?
1. When I bought these domains many years ago I was big in SEO and I had a development plan for each of the domains. In those days "
perfect keyword domains" also had a huge ranking benefit, bigger than today.
2. I used to have a lot of developers, designers, SEO guys, link searchers working for me in the past, up to 50 at one point. Even so, I still never managed to develop more than about 250 or so of the domains, and almost all the revenue came from maybe 7 or so of those websites.
3. During the "good old days" when SEO was easy for me the renewal cost of the domains wasn't a big cost. To give you an idea, a good month for me would be +$100k profit.
4. Although I am a bit of hoarder and far from all of my domains are worth the renewal fees I've paid for them over the years, some of them
are quite valuable
to the right person/buyer. Exact match generic domains have some SEO benefits, and also often get higher CTRs when running ads etc. I normally sell at least 4-7 domains per year, (completely passively from people approaching me and want to buy one), with sale prices ranging from $500 to $12,000 (the most I've sold one for in the last few years). This makes up for a bit of the renewal fees.
5. To be honest, keeping all these domains for so many years and not developing them etc hasn't been a good business decision, and now that times are much leaner it's time to start unloading some of them. I saw someone else posting a JV about some type of parking scheme (probably blackhat) and I thought, why don't I also post here in the JV section and see if I can find the right person to do JV with, and we can both make some money.
Does that help make more sense of it?
And, if you would have that amount of domains, you don't have to build anything, just sell do follow backlinks for 2,000 domains and people are going to buy it.
I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting here, but yes I've considered developing a high quality PBN network with some of these domains, and it's one of the things that could be discussed with a potential JV partner. I'm not sure it's that easy selling backlinks from undeveloped domains though, but if you have ideas regarding this, feel free to shoot me a DM with your idea.
