    Hi.

Paypal have just informed my dad that they have identified activity on his PayPal account that violates the terms of paypals User Agreement. As a result, he can no longer be able to use his account.

The worse thing is my dads a powerseller, top ebay rated member with 40000+ feedback.

This is ridiculous :(. My ebay account got suspended in December 2011 and ebay also linked my dads in January but they let him off and returned his account and now they have come up with some next crap and limited his account.

He's stressed due to his currently running listings and transactions in place.

    What can he do?

Here's a screenshot of the limitation, I've blurred some important bits out lol.

I would have put a screenshot up but its not letting me because i'm a new user -.-

Limited account usually just means verifying details by e-mailing them scanned copies of government photo ID, proof of address and a bank statement.

But if the account is actually permanently suspended, he can try opening a new account with a different e-mail, credit card and bank account.

I've lost Paypal accounts in the past and just made news one with the same name and address but different funding sources.

He's already done that previously in 2011 when pay pal limited his account before and he had to submit documents.

I think my dad will most probably sue them if they don't return his account and money. They said he can retrieve his funds after 180 days. But to be honest they are nothing more than a credit card merchant and have absolutely no legal right to with hold funds.

Thanks for your help anyway :), will most probably see what happens tomorrow morning now.

I read a thread on here awhile ago that it is really easy to create a new account and that you can even photoshop your id and stuff and they will just accept it. I wish i could point you towards the thread but i have no idea what section it was in.

My account gets limited like once every few months randomly. I just call them up. I tell them that I was in my account and such, and it randomly got limited. I tell them it happens all the time for some random reason, and normally I just call them up and they fix it for me.

They usually just say alright hold a moment, we will work on it, eventually its limitation is removed.

Just call them, its the best way to handle these things. If its something this big, you need to make it personal.

Pro tip: A lot of Paypal employees you talk to are idiots you have to call a lot and eventually you will talk to someone who is high(er) level employee and can help you better.

When you call and something sounds fishy, call back and ask again.

Also eBay owns Paypal you can also ask them for help.

We at PayPal have decided that the activity on your account fits our algorithm for funds holding. We know this is an inconvenience to you and your customers, and we would like to take this opportunity to say nothing. To make you feel better however, we will keep you busy over the next 90-180 days submitting paperwork, and maybe even investing a little money to get a positive resolution. Our bank account statement shows that this process benefits us to the tune of several million dollars a year, and as we are not a bank, you can read all of the banking regulation you want and it will do you no good. If you remember, when you first signed up with us, you agreed to our TOS that stated that there is nothing you can do to contest the holding of your cash.

However, as a global company with a reputation to match, we want to make this experience as convenient as possible. To create a more comfortable experience for our customers, we would like to refer you to our #1 customer service liason at Ebay. Please follow the link below to ensure quick remedy.

    whatever I feel like
    lol TO ABOVE POST

Look man what he said is completely true. They profit of this while you remain stuck with angry customers and pending negative feedback. Call them up and try to talk to a supervisor. The people who are first to pick up do nothing whenever I call. I've only had $800 held up, but those @#$@#$@#$ held it for a good 4 1/2 Months.

    Order of BS:
    1. account limited
    2. You call to resolve
3.they request docs, legal id, bank trans
    4. you submit the above
    5. thhey say it's not enough or make up some other completely illegitimate reason
    6. impending doom from customers

You can try legal counsel, but by agreeing to tOS then they are in the right.

There are a whole bunch of websites that have thousands of complaints from individual sellers and Companys getting the paypal screw with no vaseline.

Best of luck with them dude.

Try a different payment processor next time. I've seen it setup so when you go to buy something it takes you to the seller's website where you make an acct. and you can accept whatever forms of payment you wish for almost the same or less fees.

Anybody have any idea what usually triggers this action by Paypal? I mean they gotta have something built into their system that flags accounts. Just wondering what that criteria might be.

Fuck GayPal, get some merchant account, there are some merchants which you can integrate into eGay, some even accept GayPal on your behalf and then you withdraw money any way you like, one of them is 2checkout(2CO) it was working a year ago not sure about now, but you google "merchant for ebay" or something along those lines i'm sure you'll find something, just research and you should bee up and running in several days. Plus GayPal will be gone forever from your life.

Limiting isn't actually a big deal, unless you actually scammed/have disputes.

If he's a power seller, most likely he is a Advantage member (PayPal Advantage). You get that for receiving/spending more than $500/month. They give you amazing support.

Tell your dad to call them, they will help.

Thanks for your comments & help guys.

Paypal unfortunately have a system in place were when you register a new account and make a couple of hundred pounds then you have a good chance getting your account limited. Even if you've been on ebay for a long time they see large amounts of money coming in and claim that your high risk to customers which is a loud of bull coming out of paypal.

No good for my dad at the moment, he rang up paypal this morning and they couldn't give my dad a reason to why the account got limited and that they will look into it and get back to my dad.

My dad has come to the point where he said he will take paypal to court if they don't remove the limitation because my dad has a successful eBay business running which took a lot of time an dedication to achieve.

I've never heard of anyone taking paypal to court why is that?

He hasn't got paypal advantage, my dad has a normal business paypal account. But thanks anyway :).

Yep mainly because my suspended account got linked to a family member which in this case was my dad, what they then did was limit his account. My dad then rung up paypal and explained the situation to them but they weren't co-operating and refused to restore my dads paypal account. So couple of days later someone high up in paypal called my dad and said that after a review of his paypal account they will restore it due to him being a top ebay rated member and don't believe he done anything wrong. The guy did say that they could still limit his account in the future.
