i received that dreaded email today from one of my CPA's.The merchant had asked one of my leads how they found the product, and they forwarded one of my CL reply's with my link, to the merchant.

$1700 gone from my account :( although they did not ban me,they just told me im no longer able to promote the product.

i did everything i could to make sure i didnt leave any footprints (cloaked links and used meta-refresh) but i guess all it took was the merchant to ask the lead.

Im not sure how to reply to my CPA network about this, and chances are slim to none that ill recover this money, although if anyone knows of a good explanaton and i do get the money back.ill be more than happy to paypal you $200.

    What an awefull day :(

Wow Squirly, I feel for you man...

Just a question...What kind of method were you using? Were you sending the person relevant information as according to your ad, or was it some kind of iFraming work-around that deceived the recipient?

You don't have to reveal your method, I was just wondering how dark the black hat is in this case.

Well i can tell you,i was not using iframes.I just had a simple landing page that said * Click here to sign up for your... * .

I was trying to spread out my traffic the past few weeks and managed to getr in 2 more CPA offers, although my auto-responders have been giving me trouble for the past 2-3 weeks and was hard to balance out the traffic by doing it manual. :(

@SquirlyNutz : Seems somebody forwarded that email to advertisers abuse department.

Please don't promote more offers on that network. If you do so then they will just ban you. They have the proof now. Just get a new CPA account and start sending traffic again.

Use a URL hiding service, and after a week shut the link down.
That way, when the advertiser tries visiting the link it doesn't work.

Actually im almost 100% sure they did not forward my email to abuse department, and it was the merchant that asked my lead questions because the email i got from my CPA showed me the actual email including the persons email address and this person that emailed me a few times was really polite and had no idea where this was leading to.

Yeah im definetly not sending anymore traffic to this network since there going to be keeping a close eye on me,so it really makes no sense to continue with them.

Try chest puffing and bravado (so to speak). People are stupid. They will believe anything if they either want to believe its true or they are afraid its true. Tell them although the advertising method was not allowed the leads it generated were still valid. Tell them that they got their sales (or leads whatever) and you deserve to get paid for your service. Tell them you have successfully sued over this issue before and are quite confident your lawyer would do it again.

If that doesn't work you could even try and get a lawyer to send a demand letter for you to try and give them a scare

If that doesn't work you are probably screwed.

Disclaimer: I have not used this on any CPA company yet, but I have used it in real life for various effects and usually get a positive result but never get a negative result.

Yeah some dickhead must of reported you. What were you even promoting? It depends on how you present the product as to if you get banned or not. Most networks allow cl posting just not with an incentive.

    Yeah Squirly;
This might be worth a shot. Besides, you even stated that you probably wouldn't send them any more traffic anyway. What have you got to lose? ;)

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me, only it was several times that amount :(. There isn't really much you can say, just be apologetic. It really sucks when you get the bad apple that sends in your autoresponse and cl ad.

I've learned now that even though you can make all this bank from CL and such, if it doesn't covert for the merchant/advertiser, don't even bother with it. It's not worth all the hassle and wasted time to promote an offer and then come payday, it all goes away. Invest all that time you would have invested in your idea that wouldn't convert for the merchant, and find a way where it does covert for the merchant. Ultimately, people want to make a profit. If the advertiser doesn't make a profit, they will have the network pull/ban you. If you don't make a profit, you will stop running there offer.

i thought about using the scare tactics, although i think most CPA networks have their ass covered in their TOS.

Maybe it will work as a last resort attempt, but i doubt it.

I am surprised no one mentioned this. Say you outsourced the tasks to a person in India through oDesk and that they used craigslists without your permission.

He's right, as they say "fortune favors the bold". Call up your affiliate manager and (pretend) your shocked that you've lost $1700 over CL traffic.
Either way you look at it, they seem to be legit leads so they can't just take your money. Outline that fact. Call them, be bold.

Me too. It was an offer that paid $24 for a free trial. I think any network scrutinizes those high-paying leads much more than simple email submits. In my case there was only one network running this offer and I ran it one month, earned $1200 and got paid, and the next month earned $700 and got the ban hammer the day the payment was supposed to be released (of course). When I inquired my AM produced the copy of my email reply.

Yes, I know email submits really limit your income potential but they help you stay under the radar. I have been gun shy the past couple months and have only been doing email submits across several networks, but of course, email submits are getting more and more scarce.

Squirly, not sure how much you've said to the company. What I would say is that a rival on an internet forum you're on made the CL post in an attempt to make you lose the money. If you have a forum and a friend you can concoct some fake controversy where you eventually get the friend to admit posting it.

No need to pay me though. If you use it, you could just help me learn how to do this stuff. If that's the case, just PM me if it works :) (or doesn't, I'd be interested to see what they said if you got a "forum admission" that they used your link in an attempt to get back at you).
