Maybe I didn't check enough sites offering free blogs via WPMU but the one's I checked don't allow me to have a Wordpress install with plugin capability so I'm thinking that's going to be universally true of WPMU sites.

Since my primary purpose is for link building, my own VPS account with 100 Wordpress installs has little to no value, I think. I need each install on unique IPs and I need a couple of plugins installed.

I checked with one of the guys here at BHW that's accepting work from members and he wasn't sure it could be done.

So...... if you have any inexpensive ideas I'd sure appreciate hearing about them.

    Thanks.

Since you mention this about IP and links, can you actually proof that Google uses IP`s for the PR-algorithm? ;)

(And no: Linking to other forum threads is not a proof)

No, I absolutely can't. So what's your advice or proof that unique IPs for 100 sites is irrelevant?

Hmmm. Didn't mean for that to sound like a negative challenge to you, Ueland . Please just take it at face value. I'd like to believe that you're right in what you imply, that unique IPs are pretty much irrelevant. Hope you have a minute or two to share what knowledge you have on this point. Or, anyone else share that viewpoint?

I know the arguments for unique IPs but I'd certainly like to see evidence to the contrary.

I have no reference point yet for a dollar figure since I'm shooting in the dark. The only unique IP solution I see is a hundred cheap hosting accounts which will become very expensive. As implied in another post, maybe I don't need unique IPs.

Do you have some sort of proposition in mind? If so, I'm listening.

Get a couple VPS's and buy some extra IP's. cost about 130 per month for several hundred sites.

Benefit: Total control. Good uptime, etc...

    OR

seohosting.com (part of hostgator, but lot's of IPS - hate them).

Benefit - costs a little less.
BUT uptime sucks, no control, etc...

From what I knew before starting this thread each extra IP will cost me approximately $2 or $3 each monthly. Even at $2.00 and assuming that I get a $19.95 package that comes with 5 uniques I'm looking at an additional 95 X's $2.00 per month for $190.00 for IPs plus hosting. You mentioned $130.00 implying a total monthly cost I can live with.

So what am I missing here? You're thinking a few sites per unique IP? If so, what's the theoretical break point before risking the link value being devalued?

Oh, and thanks for you input. Greatly appreciated and I already have two VPS I'm paying for plus a number of shared hosting accounts.

Let me add that over the last couple of days I've been looking at and communicating with seo-host and seohosting.com and not sold on either at this point. And, after your comments on seohosting.com I'm even less sure of them. After the comments I found elsewhere on seo-host I've lost confidence in them too, but they are still a possibility.

i'm a cheap bastard, i got 2 hosting accounts i bought off of ebay and i plan to load these f*ckers with wp blogs, till it starts effecting speed. honestly it's wordpress so one domain name per blog about 20 autoblogs running on each .. i pay at most $30 a year .. i make that in less than a month, so oh well. that's my two sense.

if you plan to run crappy autoblogs in bulk, that's my advice. if your planning to run something more complex, then VPS is probably better.
