I consolidated the following list from several places and am using the list for all my WP sites. The list includes a few servers in Japan. I am not sure if my bunch Asian language sites are better populated due to those Japanese pings. But I think there is no harm to make a longer list.

Thanks for the list....have you test how effective pinging to this list is? Also..if you know that a lot of these are from Japan use the translator plugin to translate your posts

I would be careful about using this list as is.

Places like hxxp://rpc.pingomatic.com/ for example are pinging services which will ping other urls in the same list here. By doing this regularly, you will get your site banned for excessive pinging because you will ping pingomatic, and also ping the places that pingomatic will ping at the same time. pingoat is another that does the same so from what I can see you will ping some services at least 3 times each time you ping. That WILL get you banned from those servers.

    Just a warning.

I didn't aware that either. Thanks zone69 for pointing it out.

How will one know if one of these services bans you?

I am using MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer in which ping log I see my list is pinged no more than a time each time.

For the php script zone69 posted, there needs to be a server list supplied. It winds back to my initial question. How do I, like many other non-corders, check on the effectiveness of a pinglist?

It's a tedious task to check each of them but for example if you go to pingomatic.com you will see which servers it pings for you. You need to make sure that your ping list excludes those servers if you decide to use pingomatic, otherwise you double ping those servers.

My personal preference to not use pingomatic or any ping aggregate services, but rather to ping each service individually. The reason for this is that if pingomatic is down or has issues you lose all those servers on that specific ping whereas if you ping each one separately most the servers would still get pinged.

I don't have a clean ping list at the moment but will be putting one together in the next couple of days and will be sure to post it here for everyone.

Also with regards to being banned; Using wordpress chances are you will not know if you are banned. But it you use the script I posted earlier and access it through a web browser you will see that your ping is rejected in the output. Just a note that a lot of these ping services are flaky and will fail from time to time but not much you can do about it. If they are always failing then just remove them from your list.

HINT: If you want to test, just use the script I posted and ping somebody elses post on Digg rather than your own site. They will never ban Digg :) From there just keep adding or removing servers as you wish until you have a good list. First thing to do is remove all the aggregate services from the list OR leave those and remove the individual servers that those aggregate services will ping for you such that each server is pinged once per run. You can do it either way based on your preference. At a quick glance pingoat and pingomatic are aggregate services on your list so go to each site and see which servers they ping. then adjust your list.

    Hope this helps

Pinging has always been on of my week points...I know this has hurt me in the past but just have not been able to make it a priority. Think I'm going to make it one now. Thanks for your posts Zone

zoon69, thanks for the advice. I removed pingoat & pingomatic for now. On the other hand I used http://pingler.com/ to check if I am banned by anyone of them.

Nevertheless, pingler's default list has both pingomatic and feedburner, while feedburner is already included in pingomatic. So pingler is still double-pinging according to what you said. Am I right?

Yes you are right. You won't always get banned but there is a risk you will. I have had sites banned in the past because of this.
