C'mon guys, I have a beef. Its not with anyone in particular (And certainly not with any of my brothers and sisters on this forum). Its with the disintegration of consistency with regard to industry terminology as to what a PR(x) link constitutes.

I wholeheartedly apologize if I am wrong, but a PR7 backlink must be a link on a PAGE with a PageRank of 7. It is not a link on a subpage which does not have a PR7 on that specific page.

When did a "PR7 backlink" become a link on a subpage of site wherein the home page has a PR7 but the actual page your link is on, has a PR0. That is not a PR7 backlink; that is a PR0 backlink.

    Am I wrong here?

You are right. A subpage with a pr0 on a domain that has a pr7 is still just a pr0. The only pagerank that matter for your backlinks is the pagerank of the page your backlinks is found on.

Amen to that, who cares if the site has PR9 on home page if the blog you're commenting on has nothing

Just to clarify further, the only Pagerank that matters is the one of the page that links to you in do follow manner:p

To argue even more, we can also state that unrelated links, links in different language, links without anchor text, links where there are already spam comments etc, can bring more harm than good...

So, just to be sure. . . A profile page is PR 0 because the toolbar told you so?

What would the toolbar tell you a brand new page on Wikipedia's PR was. . . . PR 0 Correct? So you're saying you wouldn't want a link on that page because it's PR 0? Do you think it's PR is actually ZERO, or do you think that google just hasn't updated the toolbar info. . . .

Every page has PR. Even brand new pages, even if the toolbar doesn't say so. I'll take a link from a PR9 domain's internal pages any day. . .

I call for bullshit. Quote some Google/Matt proof on that.

If G reports no PR now, you believe it has PR now? If it gets PR a month later, it is a different story.

Your completely correct. Its soo annoying when people try and sell you shit links that have no PR. I sell links myself and they are only ever blogs with ACTUAL pr on the URL you get.

PR is a mathematical formula. If page rank 1 page links to new page, regardless of what the toolbar tells you, some PR is passed. . . . whether google tells you about it or not. Google's toolbar is well known to be several months behind. Just because the toolbar doesn't show page rank yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. . .

However, i'm not here to argue.

I learned that lesson the hard way too. Scrapebox taught me about trimming down to the root of the url you want to link to if the subpage is PR0. Save me a lot of time and hassle and got my site already up to a PR3 after only 6 months which was great for me, especially doing it more organically.

I've also learned that many of the new people who upload a bunch of backlink sites (well meaning, of course), you need to actually run them to make sure they are the actual PR they are claimed to be. Luckily, there's much software that does that.

My question is where are the software/sites that show true backlinks. I've gone to several and get different numbers all the time.
