My affiliate site - do I let customers know I'm comparing other sites?

I'm in the process of setting up my first affiliate site. I have a question I'd like to ask, but first a little info. It's a pretty good niche with not too much competition (a site with ~1k backlinks, PR0 and hasn't been updated in 6+ months ranks 4th) and a decent search volume (~3200 monthly for a targeted keyword). My site name is exact-keyword-phrase * net (with my exact keyword phrase there :p).

I am considering two different approaches to this site:

    1. Should I openly name and compare other websites and provide links to them (as a 301 redirect so it will not be obvious I am an affiliate); ie. be a sort of review site?

    or

    2. Should I find some specific products which I think are most likely to sell, list pictures and information and then a "b u y" button or link which is a cloaked affiliate link?

I may ultimately end up trying both, but I'm wondering if people here have had experience with both types of site and would recommend pursuing one first.

Why not split test your methods ? One might work better than the other for your niche. Each niche is different so what works for me might not work for you.

As I said I probably will do at one point, the only problem is finding a new domain with the keywords in. I'm just curious as to if anyone has done both and found one to be a lot better.
