So as promised in my previous thread, I will be sharing my experience in my adult media buying journey, and teach you a few secrets to get the ball rolling for anyone interested in the space. September of last year I had set my vision to become a millionaire from the adult advertising world. And it wasn't until a few months later, and a couple $k's down the drain, that I understood the game enough to attempt some real profits rolling in. Before I begin, if you are interested in jumping in the adult affiliate space, you must know the lingo and it's terminology, here's a resourceful link. WHAT TO UNDERSTAND FIRST It all comes down to understanding how this industry works, aside it's lingo. In @wasted's post, he breaks down the concept of media buying and where the profits are in. The few important key factors to understand is the importance of acquiring the data, and what to do with it. So let's begin. DON'T BE CHEAP WITH HANDLING YOUR DATA lae When I first started off, I had a mentality of "make the money, and purchase the resources later"... And the result of it was the loss of a few grand from my bank account. You cannot be cheap here, you need to spend some money to handle your data properly so you know what works and what doesn't. I'm not talking about hosting your domain for high volume traffic, I'm gonna be telling you how to do that for less than $0.05/m. I'm talking about tracking. You need to understand your traffic, know what is working, and know what isn't. Picture this: you have created 3 banner variations, and you want to run traffic on 4 publishers on 2 different ad zones each. You spend $5k in one week and you made $4.5k back. You just lost $500, and now your discouraged, and upset and take it all out on your mom who you live in the basement of her own home trying to convince her you are going to be a millionaire... [sigh] [sigh] In a better situation, this is what you could have done. You should have allocated a budget of as little as $100 for testing on one traffic source. You run traffic for $100 on a RTB platform, and analyse your traffic. You notice that banner A outperformed banner B and banner C on zone 1. So you work on creating 2 more variations of banner A and running another test of $100, and choosing your best performing banner to spend $k's on. I'll stop that scenario right there, since there's a whole lot of behind the scenes going on that I'm missing out. But anyway my point is, tracking your visitors is the HEART of this industry. YOU CANNOT SEE SUCCESS WITHOUT TRACKING LINKS. Period. I personally enjoy using a cloud based link tracker because the liabilities of your server going down, or paying for expensive servers to host your link tracker is avoided. It's cost effective, and reliable, that's all I can say. I use Voluum, and so should you. DOMAIN Buy a domain. Easy. Just kidding. Since your going to be pushing some heavy traffic from tube, I recommend you purchasing a domain somewhat relevant to what you are pushing. DATING - hookupxxxxx.com, datesinglesxxxx.com, omgdatingzxxxz.com, etc. ME - (depending on your pre-lander, it can be a fake news site or male related) malehealthxxx.com, xvideobloggersxxxxxx.com, etc HOSTING So a little trick that nobody in this game (but me) knows, is that AWS S3 is a cdn service offered by Amazon. The cdn is not expensive at all, in fact it's a flat rate of $0.05/m. What nobody knows is that S3 can host an html static site. So create your AWS S3 Bucket find the tutorial to point your domain to a bucket, and upload your static site. Compared to non-cloud based link trackers, where you need an actual server setup (and this is an additional charge) with Voluum, all you need to do is use your voluum link to offer pages to track conversions. This is the most cost effective way to start your own media buying journey. Here's how much you can save: Server Based Link Tracking - $50+/m for hosting ($600+/yr) - $299/m for link tracking ($3,588/m) Total: $4,188 for the year, at least!!! Cloud Based Link Tracking - $0.05/m with AWS S3 ($0.60/yr) - Voluum $99/m ($1,188/yr) Total: $1,188.60 for the year!! Savings: $2,999.40 (this can be used for traffic) I'm not going to provide you a tutorial on how to setup your own bucket with your domain pointed to it, take your time and figure it out or pay somebody to do it. =) AFFILIATE NETWORKS And here's where all the action takes place, your relationships, to affiliate networks. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE TERM RELATIONSHIP. The most crucial part of it all, with out a bond being built with your affiliate manager, or better yet the network manager - you will never reach your 50%+ ROI. I'm talking about exclusive offers, big pay bumps, net 7 payout enabled, etc. You need to be on your A game when it comes down to working with an affiliate. Next, I beg of you, to not go on and promote multiple affiliate networks. You need to understand that you will be setting up for long term success. You are not going to see millions start to roll through your bank over night. If you play your cards right, the affiliate network you choose to work with will help you scale your media buying growth. Without the help of my NM and AM's, I wouldn't have reached $10k days. So a tip of advice, pushing PPS dating is not the right beginners choice. Start with an SOI offer with a CPA network. Your growth will be quick. Not going to talk much more about this. TRAFFIC NETWORKS It's porn. There's going to be tons of traffic sources to tap into! You need to understand that when working with TrafficNetworks, you can't be afraid of spending money for testing. You need to know the data that'll be profitable. And the only way to do it is to buy that data. Besides, the increase in ROI is going to be within A. your affiliate network and B. your traffic network. You get a paybump on your offer, your ROI increases, you pay less for traffic and your ROI will increase. So the two reflect each other. For traffic soures @bayshorekid has a beautiful post to browse. I currently run my tube ads on TrafficJunky. It's an RTB platforming for sites like pornhub.com, redtube.com, youporn.com, etc. They have amazing mobile traffic. But if you don't understand how the CPM bidding works, you need to understand your eCPM and eCPC before you go ahead and start a bidding war with someone that has a tremendous amount more of funds than you. I currently am running underplayer and header mobile traffic for the US and I'm ranked 1st of the traffic with a much lower bid than my competition. Take a look This means I'm receiving 34% of PH's US mobile traffic for that zone. Which is F*****G awesome!!! Think of it, 34% of 10m is what?? So TrafficJunky is definitely the starter traffic source for you. BANNER CREATION I don't pay for shit when it comes to designing a banner. All though it is recommended, F that I create my ideology is, if I get an erection from it than my CTR will be through the roof! LOL Just kidding. And I actually mean it, that I am kidding about that. Ugly sells more, which is weird to think but at the same time it makes total sense right. Let me explain it to you: As a marketer you always need to understand the market persona or the John Doe's you want to market to, right? So let's create our John Doe for an adult dating site, you know for local hookups. John Doe needs to be - Single or Divorced (or married and unhappy with his sex life for some reason) - He can't get any women in the real world cuz he's either afraid to talk to women, can't get women, or whatever the case is - he just has a hard time getting laid - Without standards, at this point he'll sleep with anything cuz nobody is going out with him So what we understand from John Doe is that he actually has no standards. He is self conscious, and he would expect to get laid with an ugly chick before a french model. So what makes him sign up to a dating site and makes you some $$$ by doing so? Is selling them with an ugly chick banner. But don't get me wrong, some hotties sell too. Let me jot down my resources when creating a banner. This is a BH forum right, so the affiliate space is pretty black hat too. Start spying, scrape up some pics (my fav is sex.com for gifs and images), and test your CTR's. Creating GIF banners are easy, you need PS. Once you have that, enable the timeline view and create your gif from there. Of course theres more to it but this thread is about making money with adult and not a spoon fed guide to millions... gooooooooogle that shit!!! LANDING PAGES Sooo... rip that shit. Just kidding, you need to work on a good converting lander. A lander that'll have a substantial CTR, and I don't mean if it doesn't reach 100% CTR, to dump it. An average CTR is 30%. 30% of the clicks you acquire will go thru your lander. But you d understand the higher it is, the more your ROI is right?? Just letting you know So I think that covers everything you need to know about starting in the Adult Media Buying space. I covered: - Affiliate Lingo - Link Tracker - Buying a domain - Hosting your lander's the cost effective way - Affiliate networks - Traffic networks - Banners - Landing pages But just so you guys know there's far more to it than what I wrote, like split testing, optimizing, re targeting, direct media buys, and a whole bunch more. Just like you online marketers that learn from their marketing peers on BHW, you need to network and ask questions. But not just any questions, there is nothing I personally hate more than stupid questions derived from lack of drive, lack of action or execution. Now on to my journey. After understanding the game a bit more and I started receiving some help from the pro's, my goals of reaching $XXk/w with adult has been surpassed long ago. My ambition and drive to learn more and more a day has lead me to where I am today. My daily average spend is $3k-$5k, with an ROI of 45%+. I don't focus too much on direct buys, as that would be the ideal route for a great increase in my return, but tube has been consistent with me. You need to concentrate on increasing your banner CTR and LP CTR to maximize your ROI. Then depend on your paybumps to make some real profits. Here's a mobile banner that is killing it on tube. Chat styled banners perform really well. My overall spend for last 3 weeks on tube RTB This thread isn't a brag thread but a complete breakdown of my journey since I started one months ago here. I have been motivated, ambitious, driven, and not afraid of pulling the trigger - also meaning to TAKE ACTION! Resources: Spying tools: AdultAdSpy.com, self spying on competition Banner Creatives And Resources: sex.com for gifs & images, browsing and downloading other banners Traffic Sources: Huge List thanks to @bayshorekid Affiliate Networks: Offervault.com is a good site to find affiliate networks. I hope this thread helped some people. Feedback will be much appreciated P.S - I will be posting some tutorials on landing page creation, setting up link trackers, etc. so stay tuned.
