My 70K crypto subreddit was taken over

Thanks for the heads-up, seriously brutal, but super important. A lot of mods don’t realize how easy it is for inactive subs to get snatched, especially with RedditRequest working quietly in the background. Even if a sub’s getting daily posts, if the mods aren’t visibly around or checking Mod Mail, it can still get flagged as abandoned. That sucks you lost it, but your post might actually help a bunch of people avoid the same mess. Definitely worth setting up some alerts or automating mod activity checks if you’re juggling multiple subs. Better safe than sorry.

I know several similar stories. You grow a significant sub and they steal it from you for any random reason. Even if you're active mod, they make something up. Maybe there's $$$ behind the scenes who knows

That sucks,

With the new additional restriction of CQS and "inactivity" also makes it hard to keep a subreddit. It basically forces you to do something in your subreddit every 11 weeks if you do not want it to get taken over by anyone.

can you share more info on this link an official link?

These takeovers are common on reddit. Lost 2 adult subs with this manipulation but I didn't used them anyways and not planned to

I think r/SEO was also taken over this way.

I read about that somewhere, but can't remember where, they have over 300K members, whoever pulled that off is going to bank hard.
I remember when this happened. People were more worried about the new mods being so involved in crypto meme coins and similar things. I haven't seen them make any changes besides putting the "related subreddits" on the sidebar.

This thread sent shivers down my back. I feel for you OP, and this has motivated me to look into how to best protect my own subs.
