So its been a year since I joined BHW and started my IM career Wanted to share some lessons I've learned so far... I'm no guru or anything. Just want to be for the helpful members of this helpful community 1. Pick the right direction You need to put your efforts in right direction. By 'right direction' I mean something that you think you will be able to profit from. I made the mistake of going extremely blackhat and put a lot of efforts and time in learning that. Yes, I made some money but I believe if I had invested that much time and efforts in something lucrative and profitable, my bank balance would be much higher. 2. Its a numbers game Another very important thing to keep in mind is what we call 'scaling'. If you have one website up making $xx a day, why not create more websites like that? Of course, not all of those sites will make you money but its still worth the effort to scale something that you find yourself good at. 3. Hit it hard - Make every dollar yon possibly can! If you have a site ranking at #1 spot in Google and making $xx a day... Why not create another site in the same niche and rank it on first page.. Then another! That is what I call 'hitting it hard'... Once you find something that makes you money, hit it hard and milk it as much as possible. Never ever leave money on the table... 4. Little Drops Make an Ocean Most of the people don't value those little things. Like if there is something that takes you 20 minutes to set up and then makes you $15 a month, a lot of people would think "damn.. that's only $15". Yes, that is $15 but hey, wouldn't that be enough to cover your hosting or something? You can't make $100 if you don't make your first $1 or $5. 5. Don't look for "methods" - build it for the long run While those money making "methods" could be good for making some quick cash but that is not the route to go if you're in IM for the long run. Choose your field (SEO, Programming, Marketing etc) and build a strong business that you can tell the world about. 6. Don't put all eggs in one basket This could be fatal for your business. Diversify your stuff, your income sources, diversify everything. Treat your business like a computer... If you put all your essential data in one PC and some day it crashes, you're dead. Similarly, always have multiple income streams so even if one goes down, you'd still survive. 7. Be honest, helpful and trustworthy Be honest to others - don't bluff them. Karma will bite you in the ass, believe me. Be honest your yourself - don't make excuses when you fail to do something because of your laziness. Own it, fix it! Try to help anyone in need as much as you can. Some day you might be down and they come running to help you - you never know. Build your trust, never let people down. Don't make promises that you can't fulfill. 8. Value time - yours and others' In this game, time's money. You don't want to waste money... do you? Value your time and spend it doing something creative. Playing COD or BF3 is not going to get you anywhere. You'll have plenty of time for that stuff when you've achieved your goal. Value others' time as much as you value yours. 9. Stay focused, stay committed Once you commit yourself to something, DO IT! Don't let anything distract you - music, movies, TV, phone... NOTHING. When you're at work, you're at work. Period! 10. Another mistake? Making mistakes is not bad until you keep learning from your mistakes. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes... But only those succeed who learn from their mistakes. 11. Money makes money Don't be shy of investing money. The money that money makes makes more money. Enough said. 12. Never give it up - NO MATTER WHAT! The biggest mistake you could ever make... Giving up. You failed? Everyone does... But those who're successful, learned from their mistakes and tried again... fail... tried hundreds of times and failed... Keep in mind, being successful is not easy. Success doesn't come to you, success doesn't come to you you go to it! Good luck and enjoy the holidays.
