I have a 1 week old site that has unique quality content on it.

I only wrote 3 articles for article directories, and that was my only backlink work done so far.

TO my surprise, my site had over 100 backlinks when I checked today. The majority of backlinks were blog comments. The anchor text used was "**my keyword** online shop".

I don't know whether to be concerned or a little satisfied for the free backlinks?

At first I thought it could be a competitor blasting my site with crap backlinks, but the more I thought of it, why would a competitor waste their time with a site thats 1 week old and not even ranking?

My second guess, is that it is someone who owns a site with a similar domain name, and in their attempt to backlink, they used my domain instead of theirs.

    I really don't know.

    Should I be concerned?

No, like you said, free backlinks!

Actually, >My second guess, is that it is someone who owns a site with a similar domain name, and in their attempt to backlink, they used my domain instead of theirs.

This is most likely the deal.

It sounds like your competitor is blasting you with scrapebox to get your site banned by akismet. They wouldn't have any other reason for blasting you, unless you had a link back to their site somewhere on your site...

How did they know you have a new domain? or did they just notice you climbing the ranks behind them and then look you up that way?

is your site a .org/.net? I have sent BLs to the .com of one of my .net domains by accident before.

    my site is a .com

I just looked into it more. My site has exactly 186 backlinks, but the backlinks were created back in 2008-2009, and they're actually pretty good quality links. Pr3-6.
