Hi, I have a band and I am trying to learn how to correctly market it online. So far we have been doing youtube covers and using those to promote out original stuff, but I need other way to get a lot of traffic and subscribers. Any ideas or strategies? Thanks

^ Don't do this. You can promote anything, whether people like it or not is a completely different issue.

It's not that if we like it or not. It's about quality.
Anyways, if it was shit, then work on getting better.
If it was good, then go ahead and promote.

I myself am a musician and I'm just tired of hearing garbage on soundcloud and YouTube. Especially those spam comments that say "check me out" and then it turns out to be shit.

But if you really do believe that your stuff is good enough, then try tumblr. Get tumblr autobot (it's only like 12 bucks) then follow people within the music niche and like their posts too. Also reblog a lot of stuff.
From there, post your embed to your youtube link to your tumblr and keep doing this. You'll get legit likes, followers and subscribers on youtube.

If you buy views and stuff or exchange views, you get non-targetted traffic but it kinda helps in ranking on youtube.
But honestly though, only do this if you believe that your stuff is good because you won't be wasting your time, and other people and fans will eventually be doing the promotion for you

Those sites are only good for the implication than the videos have had success or that a youtube channel has a lot of subscribers, gaining legitimate daily traffic is a whole different ball game.

I would recommend tubetoolbox, send contact requests to people within a similar niche.

Check out SoundOut. Their partner site (slicethepie) pays listeners to review new artists and give honest feedback. Also youtube is great but its not the only popular video site on the net. What kind of audience would enjoy your music? Where would fans of this genre congregate? These are some of the questions you guys need to be discussing. Find out who your listeners are and go to them. Communicate with them.

    best wishes

There are tons of networks devoted to promoting music, but if you're wanting to monetize on the music as well as promote you'd best just do it yourself imo.

In order to succeed, you must have some of these: Myspace Music Page, Facebook Fan Page, Twitter, Youtube Channel, LastFM, etc. Have you ever featured in an music website ? do your effort and target the LAweekly, you will go viral, just like other featured an in there. That's what you want right? You want your band and tunes to go viral like H1N1!

If you do not have a budget to create professionals music videos, then stay away from YouTube if you are serious getting up there. No matter what you come up with, they compare you to the top VEVO artist`s.

Start with the huge music platform: Soundcloud.

    1. Upload your music (one each week or month)
    2. Gain followers thru YLH and AMF (Get you loads of real fans and followers in the long term as well). People would like follow the big ones in numbers. Thats human nature.
    3. Sign up on Cloud killers (There you get loads of comments on your tracks). Basically it is free, but you can also buy points and other stuff. It is very helpful. A track with 500 comments looks more tasty, than a 300 plays, 0 comment track. By this way you get around 1 favourites each 10 comment in general. The comments are constructive and positive, as they implented a very strict system for commenting.
    4. If you have a playbot, then feed your tracks daily with around 30-50 plays each, and let it play them more than 30 seconds each time, without China proxies used. Soundcloud implented a system like Youtube according to plays, but kind of different. They blacklist tracks with loads of china plays, and also counts how long each time the song are played. The longer and more plays, the higher in the seacrh and visibility.
After few months you end up like a big hit on Soundcloud. When you know that Soundcloud is very huge and will be much bigger in the future. (already now they have 2.5 millions likes on facebook alone), then this is the right place for a start. No doubt!

    After 3 months or so:

    4. Start some groups, that you moderate.
    5. It is important that you do not drop out of all these things after a while. It takes time and trust to build yourself up, so be active, and you will see result.

I am sure I forgot something, but this came straight to me as important.

Be patience and follows these steps.

    6. Build yourself also a facebook fan page, your own bandwebsite, and make a twitter account for it. Link them together, and link from Soundcloud.

I still do that yes, but of course, it can`t hurt upload music to youtube if your quality s descent for sure, so go for both of them.
