Hi, My name is Joey and I am a singer/songwriter. I have been recording cover songs and linking them back to my original songs on youtube. I was hoping you all could help me with getting noticed. Some artist I have noticed like Boyce Avenue and Tyler Ward have gotten huge and used covers to promote their original music. I would love any advice or possibly even put together a team here on BHW to help. Let me know. Thank you.

    1) Make sure their is a really good image that goes with your music wherever it is uploaded. Image speaks a lot lot in itself. When listening to new music, a "good" and "deep" picture is what attracts/lure people. Remember, a good picture does not simply mean it has to be some hot girl or something. It should be more of enigmatic of sorts and should blend in with the music. I do not know how well this would be the case with rock music, but it is damn well important in case of niche genres like ambient/downtempo etc music.

    2) Target the proper audience. I assume it is rock in your case.

3)Maybe use website like 8tracks to promote the music. I regularly make mixes there in "electronic" and "chillout" genre, and some of them get like 10000-20000 plays. Make sure you don't stuff those mixes with just your songs. Use other similar songs too. When you make mixes, put a link to your website/blog in the description.

    4) Work really hard on that "one" song that should go viral. If you think about it, many many music artists come into limelight because one of their really good songs went really viral and popular.

BTW I'm not a artist (at least now :p). I am just a music loving civilian. I listen to way too much music and I've screwed around on internet enough to observe what people like and don't like.

Yes they have but at the same time record companies like to hear something moving and original, I've done my fair share of covers but I do alot of my own stuff. If you were to do a cover song you would get 15 minutes of fame but if you were to do your own original then you stand a better chance of being known for you. Facebook, twitter, reverbnation these are all places to start, granted a bot could give you thousands of likes but you will lose half of those once the system checks and facebook would lose money so you can even get your accounts banned. I'm a real music artist. I haven't used a bot yet, not until I can find a free version to try. addme fast is a good site to start with.
Hope this helps and good luck.

    Step 1
Get your domain name and website
that is your homebase, not youtube, reverbnation or any of the other properties crowded with tens of millions of artists.

    Step 2
Get A job or some income
You aint making any moves without some money to work with
