Looking for some advice with regards to either having 1 massive blog or having 3-5 smaller blogs. All blogs are within the same overarching niche so it makes sense either way with regards to content. I'm looking at either doing 1 mega site with 200-300 articles or breaking that down into smaller sites of 50 or so articles each. Would like to hear people's opinions on which would be better options. I'm leaning towards splitting it into multiple sites for a bit of redundancy incase google slaps one of the sites there are still others but can't decide.

    Thoughts, opinions, cupcakes?

What has your research shown for that niche, do you find many smaller blogs or sites with hundreds of articles?

It's not a niche I have been in before with blogs : just with some static html affiliate stuff so I can't say. I realize it may vary by niche but I'm just kinda asking in a general sense.

Well, my advice will be to create less number of blogs for Tier1 and then build as many links as you can for Tier 2 & Tier 3. These days link juice is more important, so its better to have smaller number of blogs with high quality links.

    Hope that helps :)

Can I ask what CMS you are using? I'm concerned with using wordpress for a site that's going to house 300+ articles. Concerned about people actually being able to find stuff even though I've got tons of catagories and site load speed.

Do both. That way you hopefully win either way it turns out.
