So the word is that wherever you are hosting your website, the chances of ranking in that country are higher.

I am therefore wondering if it is possible to have multiple servers in several countries hosting the same website... something like mirrors? If possible, I wonder how this works and would it even be counted as duplicated content.

I don't think it is not possible to have multiple servers hosting the same website.

Yes of course hosting is factor to rank your website for certain country. But it is not the only factor, many other factors that are important too.

I host all my websites on hostgator, but still ranking well on my country and other country even though the server in USA.

    Thanks for the link.

It is very helpful but it doesn't say anything about hosting in the same country. I guess backlinks from the same country count more than were the hosting is located in. Its good to learn something new. Thanks.

What surprises me are the tiny minus factors...
Keyword in H1? For real? All my sites have keywords in H1.

Your strategy can work. But instead of making mirror sites you should create subdomains.

For example if you have siteA.com and you're ranking in the US and want to also target UK, Australia, Germany or Austria you should create 4 subdomains:

    - uk.siteA.com
    - Australia.siteA.com
    - germany.siteA.com
    - austria.siteA.com

If you choose local hosting for those subdomains and do some local SEO, you should be golden. But remember, content must be unique and locally oriented.

Doesn't really matter. From end user POV hosting in the same country as your target market might provide them with more responsive site (so going with what UrsuAke wrote might be a good-ish idea), but that's pretty much all there is to it. Still better just to get local domain and use that.

It would be duplicate content, so no point doing that. If you're looking for CDN/load balancing, then it's a whole different story - yet done in completely another fashion.

If you have a blog network it helps a lot for maintaining different IP Addresses.
