So I just read a bunch of information about on-site SEO, and the methods expressed in those always involve just a single keyword. What's the trick to doing on-site SEO for multiple keywords?
Anybody have a guide for that?

You've asked a big question in terms of schools of thought, differing opinions, and a variety of strategy that have varying degrees of effectiveness
along with any combination of all of the above.

One thing I can tell you is that each page or post on your site can rank independently for its own keyword or phrase...

Another thing to consider is having your main keyword and then having accompanying articles, posts and pages rank with long tail variations of that same keyword. This can be a very affective strategy.

Remember you'll get a hundred diff opinions...
so you may have difficulty finding a "master ebook" on the subject

    Hali~!:)

In theory you could optimize 1 page for multiple keywords, however it will become more difficult with large number of keywords and honestly to troublesome.

So usually you take 1-3 keywords and optimize 1 page for those keywords. After thats done you can target other keywords on another page. Why? Because this is the fastest and easiest way to do this, otherwhise you will just get 1 optimized garbage page instead of good quality optimized on page content.

However like they say in my country: there are multiple ways and methods of travel to Rome. Its up to you which way you want to go.

When you say a single keyword, do you guys consider "sleep lesser", "lesser sleep" and "less sleep" 3 different keywords?

so what if you are targeting a phrase?

ex. how to lose weight fast

do you just write an article about 'weight' or do you write the article with all those words together?
