I was discussing a niche website with @krishnaverma on a different thread, where he shared that this website (MPNRC.org) gets makes around $200k/month.

I checked this site, and a video on youtube discussing the website said it was getting around 10+ MILLION of traffic every month in August 2021).

At that rate, it can't be said that this site made $200k/month :smirk: , but still, it must be making mid-five figures (around $40k - $50k/month).

For those who are trying to make sense of the weird domain name, YES, it's an Expired Domain (Government of India site), the guy who acquired this domain must have been insanely smart with SEO. And it's a .org site that's why he was able to pick it up, otherwise, not everyone can buy a .gov site.

But the traffic has started to decline, maybe it's because of a lot of Google updates in the past 6-12 months, or some other reasons.

Backlinks are more important than you think ✔️ (https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/for-people-who-say-i-dont-need-links-to-rank-just-really-good-content-dont-fall-for-the-guru-trap.1422894/#post-15444518).
Tagging @BlogPro @Mr Positive @Sartre @MKSKS @Roger Marquez for more discussion.

BTW, I am not outting this website, this website has been discussed a lot on big Blogging youtube channels already.

What are your thoughts?

Anyone who has worked in Indian education and job niche, already knows this site.
Yeah, Indian niches are so un-tapped. People are making $50k/month running copy-paste sites (not going to share the site :D)

CPC is the problem but still Indian niches have huge potential. I have experienced it in past but right now not in mood of SEO due to so many random Google updates

Backlinks are important and also a necessity.
No backlinks approach doesn't suit every webmaster.
It's ok if you want to build a website and wait for getting noticed in a huge sea of websites.
I am sorry I can't I need to rank and bank.
ROI and Time both are important to me.

The best part still there are lots of options withy least competitions.

Best part you don't need native quality for it. :D

@RealDaddy @krishnaverma I saw you guys talking about this site on another thread and looked up on YT find some interesting things like the site earn a crazy amount per month sadly all case study on that site was in Hindi without any subs. Glad you opened this thread. Hope I can learn some interesting things.

Are they running Hindi blogs or....???
You have shared a lot of merhods for Keyword research, do you have any method about searching for Hindi keywords.......or to explore indian niches???

Yes, these are expired government sites - and there are more than a few of them dropping every month.

MPNRC and another site d***h******.org are two names taken in the same breath often.

Beyond these two, there are several others as well.

India has many government accessible platforms which often spawn their own sub-programs and hence purchase domains

> Central Govt. programs
> State Govt. Programs (29 states)
> ULB level programs - Urban Local Bodies - (India has 3723 ULB including Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Nagar Panchayats)
> Non-Elected official programs (Programs launched by DMs, Collectorates etc.)

// What happens is a lot of these will spawn programs, or offers in the form of websites. It could be something as simple as a sign-up portal. Or a status check portal for health, licenses etc. Or information sites about new government programs. Or temporary portals about elections, government sign up mandates etc.

I work a lot with governmental bodies in India - and getting a .gov.in domain from NIC is notoriously hard. There's a lot of paperwork involved, plus they have to take informational consent from their superiors, vet the third party vendor working on the site, approvals at many stages etc.

So when a team wants to quickly launch a program, they go for an external TLD as a means to bypass this and quickly launch a PoC. If the program is a success, sooner or later, a gov.in is made available for it. When this happens, the site moves to the official gov.in domain with the old domain redirected to the new site. The old domain then gradually is left to expire.

However, this old domain still has mentions from several gov.in websites + often from media portals when it was launched - these links stay. So if this domain is grabbed - it does really well in the SERPs.

If the program is a failure, again the same thing happens - it is run for a while and then dropped but still retains links from old government circulars (PDF files) and hence ranks really well.

P.S - If you're interested - just run a crawler for OBLs on a list of all gov.in websites - gov.in, nic.in, ac.in etc. - then check these domains for registration availability.

Also, $50k a month and/or 10MM users a month is wishful thinking and ridiculous sensationalism by certain Youtubers. These websites are mostly job sites and have a lot of high BR traffic.

Also, in 2022 - 15 such sites were taken down by the government after a story broke about exactly what these people were doing. So it's not exactly 100% risk free.

One Indian guy bought this expired domain that once belonged to the government of Madhya Pradesh.

The domain had tons of backlinks and authority.

He created a money site over it and flooded it with every low-competitive keyword he could find in the education niche.

MPNRC was hot news last year.

What do you mean by BR traffic?

High Bounce rate traffic. These sites try and rank for government exam dates, results and merit lists. People come here thinking they're the official site or will atleast guide them on how to check result, then quickly move on when they realize it's not. And does not really provide information.

These sites often use the "timed" trick. So they'll start ranking for exam dates/result dates which haven't even been announced yet and fill the page with gibberish. People searching for these dates, land, get disheartened and skip the site.

Yeah, most of the "exam related" sites are pretty gebbrish, basically they internal link 100 times inside their articles.

Have you seen some of the website have Hinglish language.

This is an exception. If you check the content, it is not that good. But if you consider the revenue per year, that is surely among top few blogs in India. He is pro at what he is doing.

Regarding buying a government expired domain, it is not that hard. You can buy those if you are really into it. In fact, many people tried to copy his idea and even bought government expired domains. But they were not able to scale like him. He must be having a team and is surely a very experienced guy though he does not want to reveal his name.

I seriously doubt that he is doing Rs. 3 crore/month. I mean he isn't even getting that much traffic, and at its peak, it was getting around 10 million pageviews/month which equates to 1 crore pageviews/month, so I don't know if advertisers are paying Rs. 3/per visitor for broke Indian students :D

maybe this guy behind the blog is insanely smart about SEO, but the site looks shit lol
no wonder why he's hit by G update

Broke Indian students? You are underestimating the owner. A very popular YouTuber revealed this figure for this blog and he does not bluff .

I was also curious about this website when it was a huge thing probably last year.
Semrush shows that the website at its peak got a traffic of ~ 28 Million, insane!
