I'm going to be living in Hungary for a few months.

Specifically, Budapest, but I can move about if I want.

Any Hungarians hiding on the forum that can give me some advice?

I'm particularly interested in big electronic music festivals if there are any...

imho it's not the best time to travel to Budapest, most of the few days long open air music festivals are being held from late spring to late summer due to the weather conditions and those are the best

if you're interested in the biggest (electronic) music festivals, then here are some:
Sziget: not just electronic, August in every year, 1 week, one of the biggest music festivals in Europe - yea, in whole Europe - with 50-75k visitors every day, recommended
Balaton Sound: July in every year, 4 days, 20-30k visitors every day, weather is hot & hot chicks in bikinis everywhere, it's not in Budapest tho, but at Lake Balaton (not too far from Budapest), highly recommended
Sensation White: May in every year, 1 night, i've never been there
T-Mobile Bónusz: it will be in October, 1 night, i've never been there
Mayday: June in every year?, 1 night, but im not completely sure, if it will be held or not in the next year, because it wasn't held this year, i've never been there

btw i've just arrived from the last summer music festival of this year, where Scooter is almost sinking the whole city :), those guys know how to make a concert

Pleased you could provide that information - I appreciate it!

I'm just heading over to see what it's like - and I've plans to live in Val d'Isere around December (skiing) so I thought why not take in a bit of Eastern Europe first.

Chose Hungary because it's got the comforts of the top-tier countries but looks to be a bit cheaper - plus the obvious perks.

    yes some hungarian hiding here:)

here is my advice. forget to living in budapest, it's a capital city of hungary it's mean everything is more expensive.. living in budapest and see budapest is two different things.. some little town you can get a higher lifestyle for cheaper.. and you can find really beautiful places.. however it's not a big country so you can go anywhere easily..

if you have a question just ask.

Hit up soundhead.hu also, if you click on the "BULIK" tab, you will find a timetable. There is a lot of clubs in Budapest with international dj guests always, every weekend. Honeybird wrote down the big parties :)
