Can you not just take the computer with you? Easiest way would be to probably buy an external hard drive. They use a usb connection and you can copy and paste any and all documents over directly. Speeds will depend on your current hardware and what you buy but you can always just set it and come back to it later

Moving to Canada permanently in a few days.

I have a computer here right now which contains all my shit. Everything.

Is there a way to take everything from this current computer? And then load it up on a computer in Canada without failure?

Please help out because the shit on my computer is very important.. And I have no knowledge in this field.

Just save everything to an external hard drive. Once you get to Canada, you can attach it and view the files when the Hard Drive is plugged in, or you can save the files to the new PC you get. I got a hard drive a few months ago and saved EVERYTHING important on my PC's. I got to thinking one day: What would I do if my PC crashed or something happened to it? I'd be screwed and tons of ideas and info I typed up into text docs would be lost, which equates to money in the long run.

FTP everything to a protected directory on your hosting account and download when you get there. Nothing to buy

Get yourself a big external hard-drive and just use Windows' backup tool to back up the entire computer onto it.

I've got A LOT of shit on my computer. I cannot take my computer for certain reasons of the airlines.

How does an external hard drive work? And is a DVD enough for a computer with many GB of shit? And are there any softwares available to do this on auto pilot? Thanks for the help guys. I'm moving on Tuesday but have to get the computer problem fixed by tomorrow!

And on another note, how's Canada? Once I get there, do you guys know roughly how long before I can get my internet connection up and running? Here it takes 21 days for the broadband company to send the routers and everything..

    Your solution:

Buy a external hard drive and clone your current one into it! After that replace the main harddrive with the external ones and proceed to uninstall any drivers (graphic, sound etc.) that you will have installed. This is what could give you a conflict. After that just set it up on your other computer and proceed with installing the drivers suitable for that computer.

Remove the hard drive, and wrap it up in some plastic cover. Put it in a box for extra protection.

Thats the easiest thing that you can do, and the best thing to do. If you buy an external hard drive, make sure you are backing up the whole HDD into it and not copying the datas manually.

Thanks guys, gonna get an external hard drive.

On another note, how is Canada for anyone that lives there?

Once I get there, how fast can I get Internet running up?

How long to get your debit/credit card once applied for?

Any places I should go in particular?

It's not bad. I'm not sure how it would take 21 days for you to get broadband internet. I got it installed in 3 days here in Waterloo.

I'm not sure how long credit card approvals would take. It's been a long time since I had to apply for one.

Well, you can go and live anywhere, however try not to get internet from any of the major providers such as Rogers or Bell. They usually have bandwidth limits or cap speeds as they like. Try to get one of the resellers to get internet instead. I use eyesurf and I'm very happy with them

Like OxonBeef said, why not just ship the computer? But even if you were not moving, I would get a service like JungleDisk.com business acct and store everything on your computer - online. This is in addition to an external harddrive. With JD, you will always have access to important docs and programs with a few clicks after you set it up.

    If you had a mac.
You could of easily cloned it with ALL your files and settings.

then restore it on another mac.
    Make two copies for safety.

but you could ship your computer thru fedex overnight...
and it might get there before you.

Ive taken my entire desktop from the US to the UK and another flight. I also had an external hard drive in that case. In my other case I had a monitor lol. I removed the hard drive, ram and graphics card. Wrapped them in bubble wrap and put those in my carry on. You have to take them out and put them through the x-ray machine. I found a note from TSA in my case telling me they opened it.

Since you say you cant take your computer. Why don't you remove your hard drive and just take that with your carry on?

I say just remove the HDD and your pretty much done. If you want to carry nothing, well just upload all of your important stuff on a file dump website.

Make sure you place password protect though. When you get your internet up in running in Canada just access the download link and download all your stuff.
At least this is the way I do things when I have to travel and I don't want to carry a laptop with me.
