Saving Private Ryan is my favorite Military movie and the 5.1 surround in the movie is the best amongst its genre.

Tears of the Sun. I think It's a good one, especially the ending.

Full Metal Jacket is also a great one. It's a must see if you haven't already!

The new Lone Survivor is definitely worth a look!

I tend to find new films by typing in things like "100 best war movies" in google.. you'll find a bunch of more or less unknown movies that way

Tom & Jerry -- nothing more violent than those 2. :) No nations have fought more wars in 7 centuries than those 2 have done in a week...

    Others are:
The Great Escape, Platoon, Patton, The Dirty Dozen, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now

Well OP, this all depends on what you mean with a good military movie. If you are all "HURR DURR 'UHMERRIKUH", then the following movies are not for you. If you want movies that are a bit more realistic, that portray war as the hell it is, then I recommend for example:

"IDI I SMOTRI", AKA "Come and see". About Partisans, Einsatztruppen, and sick shit going on behind the German frontlines in the Soviet Union during the 1940's. http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6164066/Come_and_See_(Idi_i_smotri)_(1985)_x264_AAC_Multisubs

You can also try the aforementioned "Das Boot", that is the only realistic submariner movie. Ignore the awful U571.

The ex-Yugoslavs have done a bunch of great war movies about recent and past wars. "Pretty Village, Pretty Flame" comes to mind http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6728....aka.Pretty.Village.Pretty.Flame.1996.DVDRip.

So what ones do you actually recommend?

I'm sure OP is capable of finding a list of films by himself, but that wasn't what he was asking for was it?
