Lets say you wanted to make a mobile app to track something. Like an ice-cream truck. You open the app to find out where it is at the moment. What is required to make such an app?

to clarify: Is it possible to make a location sharing app and how difficult/costly would it be?

How would you know the location of the ice-cream truck at any given point in time? Does the ice cream truck company provide an API? Do they post their truck locations on their own site or on FourSquare, Twitter or FB? Alternatively, do you want the users of your app to post the locations if and when they spot an ice-cream truck?

These are some questions that come to mind in determining the requirements for your location sharing app.

If this is in fact the case then it would not be that difficult to code.

Hmm, what is the easiest way of doing this? Does the truck have to post its location manually, and then the app fetches it's location? Or is there a way for it to be real-time updated without the truck having to do any posting?

The truck isn't providing an API or anything like that.
