I'm sure a version of this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find it when I did a search.

When I try to find out the number of links pointing to my site, I seem to always get a different number depending on which program I use. Be it Google, Traffic Travis, SEO Moz Site Explorer, etc, the number of links that they report pointing to my site are all different.

So I have been keeping track of the number of links across multiple programs. But now with more site to keep track of, its becoming too much work. So I want to just pick one program to track the number of links going to my site, and to the competition. Which program do you guys use and find to be the most accurate?

Majestic seo is the more accurate.

Not really. Since the OP wants to track the backlinks of a website he owns, The best option would be to use Google Webmaster tools. It's simply the most accurate and reliable.

He wants to see links to his site AND competition. Google webmaster tools will show you all the links that they account for. Majestic SEO will send out their own crawlers so might pick up other links that Google has not picked up on. Their data is pretty accurate.

SEOmoz tends to be a little slower at finding links than Majestic. You could also try ahrefs its also a pretty popular choice but there is no best answer.

Cant be. Currently it states that one of my keywords is in position 22 and its not. My site doesnt should up until you get to page 20. If it was in position 22 it would be at the bottom of page 2 going to page 3. Its not accurate at all.

Always find ahrefs to be pretty good but some tools change daily
