Is this correct? Should I upgrade my amount of proxies?

You are looking at two different things here.

The IP's of your backlinks. IP diversity in your backlinks is a good thing and matters to Google. This is why you you do not get all your links from just a few sites.

The second is your proxy IP's. This has nothing to do with Google and everything to do with the site owners and mods allowing you to put links on their sites or letting them stick once you do. If you tried to use scrapebox or any other linkbuilding software without proxies pretty soon you would be on every blacklist out there and your success rate would fall through the floor.
