Let's say we've developed a quality backlink software... (for example, web 2.0 backlink software).

Should we make it One Time Fee (e.g $97 one time payment) or Monthly Fee (e.g $19 monthly fee)?

Which would be more profitable for us, in your opinion?

One time fee if the software is satisfactory and nothing special like already available.

Recurring fee, if you bring really something special to the table.

Most one time fee softwares go dead within a year . If you intend to update and support the product go monthly fee.

Use both. I've seen a few pieces of software that give people a limited time to buy a lifetime subscription for the first few days after releasing a major update to their software. Then after that time is up the only offer their software as a monthly subscription basis.

I can to you that I personally dislike paying monthly fees unless I absolutely have to. If it's something that I use constantly or goes beyond its value for me then I'd rather pay a one time fee.

If you have confidence in the offering and you expect you can adapt with market,go for monthly all the way.

kinlee has provided the best answer so far. That would allow for A/B testing & comparison if you utilize both models for your product.

Monthly fees are profitable, but cot damn. I hate them so much but as long as there are quick updates to product then yeah it makes perfect sense for a monthly fee. You can do both, charge for the product then add a monthly fee.

There is a reason why companies like Microsoft and Adobe are starting to move towards monthly subscriptions.

    Option 1 = Lifetime
    Option 2 = Monthly

a 1 time fee programs die fast and don't work for developer or users -- Sites are constantly changing and updating - adding new security so people want confidence in the developer before buying.

For me, personally, if you want to make quick bucks, go for one-time fee because many people don't like to pay on a monthly basis.

If you regularly update your bot and everything - you can do both one-time and monthly fee. For example, $79 one time fee and $9 monthly fee.

    It's your choice.
