Just wondering if there is a software or service out there that will monitor the top 10 or so results for a particular keyword or keywords?

Just because if I am working on a niche, I want to know if there are active competitors, or new competitors more likely that are competing as well - so if a new result suddenly appears in top ten, either google have changed algos or perhaps I have a new competitor to deal with.

Then I can monitor them on ahrefs or something and see what links they are building.

Can't you just load the top 20 into a rank tracker, and watch them yourself?

yea I could do, but it wont really tell me what i need to know.
-like if one of them dissapears, i wont know who has replaced them will I?

I really want something that just says, this is the top ten for keyword:

    site1
    site2
    site3
    etc

or even better, an email that says hey siteX has just turned up on page 1 for your keyword!

I think it would be relatively easy to write in PHP, but just wondering if there's something out there already.

This is actually an interesting idea: being an eagle eye to your keywords so you can be 1-step ahead of them.

I doubt Rank Ranger can do that. It only track your rankings and your competitor rankings. Not the search results.

just checked and yes , it can't. i hope some one will build a tool like this. (it won't be a difficult thing and being updated about your keywords is a good thing )

you can try spyfu.com (it will display rank change for first 50 results)

I might knock something basic together myself. But if you are planning to build it professionally, keep us updated.

You can use some type of website monitor that monitors changes on a website. Except these changes you would be monitoring would be SE changes.

People use similar methods to monitor the local SERPs. Such as 2-10 box local box listing replacements and @ what position these appear on. Which is why/how you see a lot of before/after shit in blogs when google makes ui changes to local serps/listings.

You would need to monitor a specific pixel x/y as it would trigger based off of adwords ads, as these are dynamic based on a lot of factors.

You can be ghetto w/ it and automate a screenshot software that takes screenshots @ different intervals of the SERPs. This isn't ideal though.

If there is a software that can scrape SERP changes based off of keywords, then I would love to know of it.

Mainstream trackers wouldn't be ideal as a website could still prop up past 20 into top listings, if only temp.
At least w/ these you could monitor their rise/fall, rather than the above I mentioned, only monitor a specific page range.
