There was a time in my life I cared more about enjoying what I do...I was sitting at my kitchen table starring at bills.
Then I said "Hell with this" and started a plan to make money...Found out I enjoy the thrill of it...
Result? Pretty girls in stocking with short shorts on and tall boots, a boat I take out on the bay and a couple hours a day doing what I "Mildly enjoy"
Oh cannot forget my fake ass friends sponging on me...where would I be without them
Great answer unclemike !
For my part I do coding, I have a full time job doing it. I love it. But that does not pay enough to have the pretty girls and everything so I try to use my free time efficiently to have more money, I could go on and make websites or games for the fun... but then I have the feeling I'm loosing my time because I could do something similar and earn money from it, and still love it !
Another thing...Anyone else feel the thrill of picking a plan, setting it up and when you log into your merchant account you
Sure takes development and testing but when you hit those thousands its a nice feeling
i totally agree in a way, if i could make alot of money from 1 of my sites then great, but most of the ideas i got for my site (dont want to double spam so wont mention it) would DRAMATICALLY damage the site, locking contents unless they do surveys or click ads.
where is the line between making the website YOU WANT TO RUN, and making money?
you spend days/weeks/even months making a website, but then ruin what you initially wanted to created, for money
First of all, those who do coding or web designing never ever do it for money(well, most of them). Its not possible to live off with something you dont like only if you need to trade your time into it. The forum basically aims to teach you how to earn money "passively". It means you don't trade your time for money.
So keep doing what you like and spend the money to outsource what you don't like. That's what we all do. Create opportunities for others and milk money and simultaneously do what you like even if it pays you penny.
I don't think it's ruining it, yes content lockers are bad for a website. I would not use them on a website I took time to make.
You can still make money from it, in a way that will not hurt users ! Adsences, rent your ad spaces, things like this... You can also sell a product related to your site, if the users don't want to click ads or to buy your product then that's it, they can access your content anyway.
A balance of what you like and what earns you money should work...
I like fishing and BBQ
Ever see a method for good fishing spots or how to BBQ? Nope
Its okay with better time management I enjoy it all...might even start a personal travel blog one of these days. You want to know
the best part? I do not give a damn how many see it or how many tiers of backlinks it has.
I do it because I like it and want to cash-in on my creative skills
Yes i also love to making websites but there is no problem earning money from my passion.
My brother is a web desiner and he makes money good money. I will ask him about some advices for you. will be posting. and keep positive is amazing to do what we love and also make money at the same time
At the end of the day, money talks. You can't buy bread and butter with love. The more money you earn with lesser time n' effort, more time you have in your hands for doing what you really want. Talking about Designing and Coding, I am personally into this field because of my love for computers since my childhood. So, yeah, I enjoy every bit of it.
Having said that, if you take everything as "fun", you can't end up earning money for it. For earning money, you need to be serious with your skills.
Coming to why people talk about money here? This is because it is a forum that people primarily use for money making ideas. Go to a forum on Weeds, and you will find discussions on weeds everywhere. Would you complain why people talk about weed? I guess not.
I think a large chunk of people here enjoy making websites. But there comes a point in life when you have to make money, like it or not. So, making money from something you enjoy would seem like a good idea...
