Hey all,

I just registered blockbuster-movie.com and I plan on creating a movie site for it; where you can watch movies from all genre's online for free.

My question is this, how can I monetize this site for maximum profits for the long haul? I mean for years and years.

I know about ppi and what-not, but can't seem tget my mind and imagination working in the right direction to get this bad boy profitable.

Been worrying about money and paying the bills, feeding my family and now x-mas right around the corner, my mind has become a primordial wad of crap and I can't think to come up with ideas.

Anyone care to share a few gems?

I see from the tread (was gunna post it) that you have the PHP movie script. Use a script like that to get a website up and running.

Popular methods would be to use PPI, PPV, CPA gateways for access to certain content in the site. Use youtube to post trailers and watermark site name and say in description - watch and download full movie here. Add it to directories and online search sites like:

HTML:
www.ovguide.com

Take a browse at the other sites to gain some ideas. You could also use the sidereel methods metioned on this site. Just search for them. They could easily net you some easy cash. Affiliate offers such as dvd rental and online movies such as netflix. You could also promote clickbank products such as the movie download sites. Chuck in some adsense/bidvertise/adbrite ads that are well and strategically placed.

Sign up with Zango and get their code for putting an overlay on your website. It's a PPI toolbar company and basically it will force users to quickly download and install the toolbar if they want to watch your videos.

is it just me or does the site not load? either way, patrat, i was wondering which php movie script you were referring to, as i would like to try it out. ive been wanting to start one, just havent come across a script yet.

i wasnt referring to ovguide, i was referring to the OP'er url he posted. thanks much for the link to the script!

dating101: Just to let you know that you can be on trouble using this domain name, because blockbuster is a trademark, don't put a lot of money or time in this site.:D

Sorry to advice about this "negative" thing

Question about movie sites in general: Are you guys getting the same heat as the music sites? Or are they less litigation happy?

Music is always more "dangerous" per say than movies because the RIAA has already demonstrated they will run after the elderly, young children, college students and if you really think that's wild - the RIAA has even sued dead people http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/05/riaa_sues_the_dead/

But so long as you host outside of the United States, it shouldn't matter one way or another.

Cheers,

Yes he is correct... I was contacted by a law firm because I had a domain name that contained a trademark word. I had to give up the domain and/or face legal action - I gave up the domain

You might want to grab another domain name before you put time and effort into your site.

What? Ive never heard of this before, or had any issues. I normally buy .org.uk domain names with trademarks in them and are using them right now. For example if a new and highly hyped product is in production I grab the domain name, and put a pre-order site up. Then a compare, review site up when it it released. I have done this for lots of products including names such as:

Wii, Playstation, Amazon, Ebay, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and many more.

I have never had any problems, I am in the UK. Why is this a problem? Am I allowed to do this because I am promoting their products as an affiliate. So if you have the Wii trademark in your domain name - it is ok as your promoting the Wii an its products.

Surley you could get away with this have a blockbuster video landing page that people will see but when you promote it point them to the site you are actually running.

I use this method for casino blackhat traffic. I have a generic gambling site that looks legit with reviews etc. However I run my blackhat traffic through it using PHP scripts. When the affiliate networks look what page etc the certain traffic is coming from they see a legit page. For example offers.htm, or bonuses.htm etc. However when the traffic hits the page it will be redirected depending on where it come from etc.

Sign up to a couple of CPA networks and look through the offers. I recommend you get interactive offers for free prizes (e.g. first monkey to eat 20 bananas offer). Freebie offers will work best as visitors at your website will be looking for free movies.

I thought about any problems with the use of "blockuster" in my url. I found "blockbuster" in the the dictionary, and it is a hollywood term used to describe the financial earning of a film.

Since it is in the dictionary, I would assume that I would be safe. Otherwise, I think I will start a corporation called "The, Inc." and then I can attack every company that uses the word "the" in their maketing materials.

I could understand this being a problem if I had the word, "Wal-Mart" in the url, as this is clearly a trademark issue.

But "blockbuster" is just an everyday word, and my site will not be a movie rental site. So, I should be ok.

You aren't doing any harm, you are even doing them a favor. Why would they want you out of the picture when you do all the hard work (seo and stuff)?

if your site gets popular count on an email from their lawyers
