    Hey!

I've found a video that I want to use and monetise, but it isn't mine. It's not music or film or anything, it's just off some random dude talking in his bedroom. He hasn't been active for around 3 years, and he hadn't monetised the video.

I think I'll be able to get away with monetising it for ages, but eventually it may be one of the top viewed videos, or somewhere near, as I have some great promotion methods I will be using on it. So what do you think would happen if say after 2 years of cashing in from it, I was finally found out? Would they try and get me to pay back what I had earned or something? Or maybe I could plead ignorance as it will be only one video I'll be doing it with.

    Thoughts?

(EDIT: The dude isn't like a partner or anything either, he only uploaded one other video and it was all over 3 years ago)

Yeah, it is a bit dodgy. I know most people will advise against it. I normally would too, but I think I may just risk it this once and see what happens.

Why not try connecting with him and negotiate the rights to use that video. Alternately, why not get a similar video done, unless its going to be very costly since you are expecting it to be the top viewed video in sometime..

Not a bad idea, but since he hasn't been active in so long, I don't expect him to be back on any time soon to respond to any messages.

To be honest, I've just put the plan in to action, so we'll see how it pans out. I could be back here in some time crying, but it's a risk I've decided to take.

    Cheers for the input!

Looks like you have your mind made up already. why don't you just make as much as you can without risking getting it big enough to be noticed. As long as you dont get too greedy you should be fine. Good Luck!
