I'm a noob and just learning how to choose niche, select keywords. I found a high paying keyword which may be potential or may have not any chance. That's the keyword, "how to get a free credit report".

The description is as follow:
SOC: 17 (quitely good according MNF)
Local search: 2400
Global search: 2900
inurl: 56
intitle: 75
inanchor: 64
Exact Phrase including omitted results: 3,520,000
Exact Phrase excluding omitted results: 598
well, looks like that I find a good keyword, do I?

but the serp is terrible
#1 a authority site pr 7 page links 77000+
#2 #3 a gov site pr 6/7 page links 4000+
#4 one page from msn pr 4 page links 111
#5 pr 4 page links 11
...
#10 a site with pr 8, page links 1,637,294

So, my question: do I have any chance for the keyword or should I stay away from it?

This is my first thread on BHW, feel free to give your opinion, any discussion would be fine.

cant really see unless I see the keyword.
But It isn't enough to go for a keyword just by checking it in MNF!

It seems that the time posting is bad, few people to look at the thread.

You can't rely entirely on SOC data.
SOC gives you a rough indication.

What I normally do is hunt niches using MNF. I go for SOC upto 300. Then do a competition analysis using Market Samurai. You could do that manually using google and firefox seo extensions. But Market Samurai works great.

thanks, neo
i will do more research about market samurai

this is what i do when i get such ridiculous number but good SOC.

go to google, put "keyword" , click page 10 at the bottom , try to reach page 100 or 200 see if the result still show Results 181 - 190 of about XXXXX for keyword.

normally, you will get the less number of competing websites.

Hope that help.

thanks for your advice, jtliewim
i also do it and get the number, 598 of about 3,520,000 results
as other people said, i need do more analysis

If it were me, I would definitely NOT go for this keyword.

The competition is too huge.

The soc number is
allintitle:"keyword" allinurl:"keyword" allinanchor:"keyword" hence it might not be exact so you have to check it out on your own.

I would say market samurai shows a more reliable analysis most of the time.

Listen here, Market Sumarai will not give you any better results. All it can do is give you Red and Green but then again they only show keywords in meta tags.

"how to get a free credit report"
Forget it mate, the top results are too strong and you better off elsewhere unless you want to invest years of work into it.

Use MNF as a way to narrow down your choices. Download seoquake to do further analysis. The SOC will always throw in the odd "rankable" keyword when in fact it's impossble, whats good is that most of the times the software gets it right and the skill here is looking for the right ones in that list of "rankable ones"

Heres a tip, Go to google product search and get your ideas there.

Thanks to all you guys. I have thrown the keyword away, but how do i judge a keyword, according search result numbers, pr and links of competitor in first page? have any course recommended for noob?
