    Hi guys,

I have been thinking about building MNF EMD's or mini authority sites (say 50 pages) with a brandable name not EMD of course.

Does anyone have experience with both to tell us which one gives a better ROI?

MNF? microniche finder? Or MNS, microniche sites?

I think you mean MNS, please correct me if I'm wrong.

MNS are how to get into the market, but you should definitely try to build them into an authority on their keywords.

Sorry, I meant MNS not MNF. Have been doing waay too much keyword research lately it looks like.

Brandable - I mean something memorable, of course not using 'sony' in the domain name.

I feel that google is beginning to really hate on MNS. I think the key is these days, keep the user ON your website for a good period of time, and keep them coming back

For an MNS I would go with a three word EMD, but then if you want to build it out too much, is it not much better to get a memorable name, losing the EMD advantage, but gaining repeat traffic and looking un-spammy.

Google is probably looking at G analytics to see how long the user is staying on your site and how many pages they are looking at I guess.

I think it's quite the opposite. Google has and probably will give a lot of targeted authority to simple EMDs. You can overoptimize them to some extend and get away with it. It's just what it is - an EMD always has an advantage in tiny niches.

If you have great content, a good site structure, good onpage SEO and a bunch of quality link pointing to your microsites, you're good.

Oh yeah, for me, a microsite is at least 5 pages of unique, quality content (not counting PP, About US, Contact).

janist, your point is well taken. Good post.

The question now is which one gives the best ROI.

The ROI has little to do with site structure and more to do with how much work you put into link building.

http://keyword.com might rank with a little less work than http://site.com/keyword but you will have to pay extra for the domain so it is a tradeoff.

Essentially the answer to your question is neither. There are too many variables to give you an accurate answer. I build both types of sites. EMDs are good for quick ranking and I use them for experiments. With the results of those experiments I build bigger sites.

People telling you to start with EMDs are giving you good advice.
